Illmind Bass (Virtual Bass that sounds live) Help.

I know its very hard to emulate the sound of a real bass on a keyboard using a VSTi. I also understand that its not the patch, but more so how you play the patch that gives a more real effect. My problem is finding a decent patch that sounds like the one Illmind uses in a lot of his productions. I am not trying to steal his style, but the bass he uses would fit well in a couple of my productions. I used Trillogy, and I mean it works, I guess, but I feel there is a plugin out there i am missing out on e. Can someone help me out on how to achieve this sound, it would mean a lot, thanks.

I provided some examples so you can get a jist if what I am asking...

and illmind mentioned he is "all in the box"

Illmind "You Ain't Tough":

Illmind "Kryptonite":
http://soundcloud.com/illmind/kryptonite-produced-by-llmind

Johnny Juliano "Mile High Club":

(I really like the bass in this one, it meshes well with the sample, and sounds live like)

Keep in Mind that the best instruMentalists and producers don't just go with presets. They take alot of time using their tools correctly...by tweaking and tweaking. I'm pretty sure that none of them just load up a preset and go to town.

This is why it's hard to get that same sound. It's theirs.

If you're using Trilogy, then you should be good to go...play widdit.

Illmind a is friend and a great producer. I'll say this, Illmind tweaks EVERYTHING.

If you have Trilogy or Trilian, you have what it takes to get the sound you want. Its up to you to tweak the sound out.

Was just hangin with Ill tonight. Him and Music Maestro. I know what he uses, and what I've used on his bass lines. Can't divulge.

But what I can say is that Ill has used pretty much every and anything with little to no regard as to how it was intended to be used, and has come across the things that he personally likes. Some are conventionally approaches, some are very much not. He's constantly innovating, and seldom emulating.

But Imakemadbeats is absolutely right. If you have Trilogy or any number of decent programs you can get similar and excellent bass sounds.

Have you considered learning bass? I am really considering going that route. Its a bit harder than programming something with a plug in but once u get the hang of it I am sure it will be much easier to get a solid bassline that way than with using a keyboad. I hope anyway lol

I second this notion, Native Instruments has a few bass plugins out there that are really nice, not to mention Trillian from Spectrasonics is probably all you could really want in a bass vst.

Also +1 for learning the bass.

I went direct to the source and asked the man himself.

He said he used "Kontakt 4 M-Bass Native Instruments"
Can you please tell me what Virtual Bass you used in "You Ain't Tough"? I know a lot or producers never share what they use, but I don't see it as biting. Because I look at it as a owning a real bass, or real guitar, there are MANY ways to play it. |

I thanked him, even thought I have absolutely no idea on what this product is, if someone on here maybe knows that would be cool.

I didn't want to keep bugging him about it lol.

But, I knew it was Trilogy, as I've been using it for years, but yeah, just wanted to update.

Knew it was or knew it wasn't Trilogy? at any rate I had a hunch it was one of those basses from NI, nevertheless here is the product and thank you for sharing the info.

NATIVE INSTRUMENTS

I think as far as a complete vst for bass goes Trillian takes the cake and then some but then again he did say trillogy so I'm not sure. Trillian is ten times bigger.

M Bass is nice. I'm a big fan of J Bass too. Another good option. I love the smoothness of a J. Might as well throw P Bass out there as well too. If you don't get the amped versions get Ampeg SVX and run them through there. It will really liven them up.

Good luck finding the sound you want.

Definitely prefer the Jay Bass over the M Bass or Pre - Bass. The Jay Bass sounds very silky.
