MC Shan (80's Old School Rap Pioneer) - Let's Bring Hip-Hop Back (2012)

So what do yall think... Dope... or should MC Shan sit is old *ss down somewhere?

Has the "Rap Game" changed to much for Old school rappers like MC Shan?

... for those not familiar with MC Shan he dropped this classic back in 1987 - produced by Marley Marl.

I am still a fan of mc Shan , still listen to his music, dope hearing him on something again, guess it's cool could have been worse, I'd prefer if he just made some dope songs instead of the old head complaining about the new shit. He does alot of work behind the scenes so he's been active since he started

I wonder how much money MC Shan made off of MC Snow's album... he produced and wrote a lot of it?

The album sold over 8 million records worldwide back in 1993.

i never liked this song, really.
shan tried hard on this one, and it's almost a shame... but,...
flow wise,... snow killed it.

BTW, what happened to this dude?

...who is he talking about?

Other than that, he did his thing on the verse. Balance between what folks know of him & more modern shit. I'm not saying "wow!*", but it's good. Beat is crap though, doesn't fit the mood his words are setting at all, somethin darker (think Alchemist) woulda fit better. Makes me wonder if he initially wrote that to somethin else.

(* - I'd say there's a relationship when it comes to old school MCs between how wide their influence has spread and how well they work today. Rakim, Kool G Rap & Too Short don't have to really "update" anything cuz half the decent shit that came since them has some bit of them in it.)

That beat takes me back to like 2007. I think you needed to go back a little further, Shan.

if people don't know who Shan is, then their opinion won't count for much. I think this new shit is wack. the beat is a D and his verses are C.

He was never a top rapper, though. I think I like his stuff more for nostalgia's sake, than for real skills.

Marley Marl made him.

My favorite track of his, is "Marley Marl Scratch."

I was so happy to come across this a couple days ago, one of my favorite old school rappers. I remember growing up thinking about how his voice and delivery reminded me of Eazy-E

It's not my favorite from MC Shan and I have to admit he is a bit before my time.

I feel what he's saying is true though, a lot of the "B" to "C" list rappers are really talking a bunch of nonsense compared to what/where they are and nobody cares to expose that. I don't want to get to far into that conversation, I don't want to say everyone in the game is fraudulent by any means but I feel that it is more people than ever, or at least it's more obvious. As for the rest, it's just his opinions on music.

As for him being to old, I really don't care anymore. I used to feel that the old cats kind of fade in time but we really are not seeing many people who could fill the shoes of some of the older cats. I tracked someone who I am guessing is about 40 not too long ago and he was spitting harder/better/etc than a lot of people I record half his age. He isn't even trying to be a rapper anymore, a friend just wanted him on his project and it was actually really dope.

I may be showing my age though, I honestly don't really understand the lifestyle of an 16-20 year old anymore so maybe there is a reason for all of this new shit, but I, like many, and the topic of conversation, am one who just isn't feeling the new shit but I feel the old cats still doing it. Not to the point when they were in their prime but I still feel it more than most other music.

Obviously it's not going to be what he's known for but how could you expect him to sound anywhere near the way he did when he was in his prime? I prefer older artists in hip-hop, I'm actually sick of the notion that it's a young persons genre.

I didn't say I expect him to sound anywhere near his prime. That's my whole point. It seems if you are 40 and can still rap, given you had credentials to begin with, not being at your best is still better than those who should be at their "prime". I will leave it at that.

Sounds like he still has the vocal tone. Just needs better lyrics and song concepts. Bring this back !!!
