8X8 midi interface suggestion

I'm starting to put my studio back together and need a recommendation on a 8X8 midi interface. My host is Cubase SX3 with a Fireface 800.

The gear I will be hooking up is a Yamaha Motif, JD-990, and MPC2000XL.

I dont need 8X8 at this time, but in the future I see myself getting a Mackie Control etc. and I would like to get a rack mounted unit.

I read that the Edirol UM-880 is a nice piece, but it is discontinued everywhere (and nowhere to be seen on Ebay). I have heard mixed reviews on the M-Audio and MOTU units.

Anyone have any personal experience with the above units or any other brands I may not know about? I'd like to get one of these off Ebay. I can't believe how expensive they are compared to the 4 port units.

Check out the Motu Midi Express XT. It connects to your PC/MAC via USB. Also acts as a Midi patchbay. I haven't expressed any latency issues with mine. I bought a M-Audio Midisport 1st but had to return it because it's software kept crashing on my MAC.

Thanks for the replies.

I went with the Motu Express XT. I called a few stores and this is what they recommended.

Got it for a little over $300. Although I hate paying that much for something that doesn't make any sounds!
