| Strings in that sort of new Chris Brown Song (Scott Storch?) Anyone have any guesses as to what synth he may be using there? His mixes always sound pristine, especially in the low end (not that that has anything to do with the strings) That is a Scott Storch beat right? Who engineers his stuff??

| Gear Head | Here are a couple pics taken of Scott's setup. Scott used to have his friend Kam engineer for him. I don't know if he still is though. |

| probably motif strings. Kam still engineers for scott, he takes care of more of the mixing, and wayne the brain is the tracking engineer. but they flip flop a lot because half the time scott's got two or three rooms booked out, one for him to do beats, one for artist to do vocals, and mixing or tracking someone else in another. Kam and Wayne are the main engineers though. I think scott's stuff sounds so pristine because he just knows how to put sounds together, has a great ear, and can play the hell out of a keyboard. |

| in the pic thats a motif 7 the classic one he doesnt use that one no more i know he now uses a motif es 8, and me might soon even switch to xs. As far asd the strings he gets all of them from the motif es and the synths ar also from the motif he just tweaks his to his liking. He also uses the mod whell like crazy. |

| His productions sounds like a cross between a billion dollar studio and a basement to me. Naked and down to earth but still classy. It's subjective but let's say DRE is 100% billion dollar studio and Rick Rubin 100% basement. It sounds like there are no fillers at all on his stuff, effects, drumlayers, layers, synths etc, I can imagine him being the guy who says "why do that? it's fine as it is". |

| ^Pretty good description. JoJo's "This Time" is a perfect example of that. |

| The only i can tell there is the classic motif not es its a classic motif 7, the nord lead, and the mpc 2000xl maybe not much help but he has upgraded alot of this stuff this is his old stuff. I know he uses the motif es8 now and i dont think he uses the mpc 2000 because i have an es and the drum sound straight motif, i think he might still be using the nord lead but very lightly its just straight motif es and barely any editing. |

i see Avalons, i see Pultecs, i see a big yellow Waldorf, there may also be a Focusrite ISA series pre there but i can't tell. i also see a Novation of some sort, some Roland XV series modules (3080, 5080?) There could possibly be a Studio Electronics Omega or an SE-1

| ok so lookin at both pics, the basic rundown is as follows: There's the Clav D6, classic motif, Nord Lead 2 (that's my guess, Lead 1 is way old school and the 2 always sounded better to me than the 3) and obviously the 2kxl Using the second picture to get a better shot of the tall rack, you're looking at an SE1(x), Waldorf Q, Emu Vintage Pro, Novation Supernova, and 2 JV boxes. I don't hear his clav in any recent tracks although maybe he's just freaking it out so much that you can't even tell it's comin from the clav . i gotta definietly use mine more in productions. I agree that most of his string sounds seem to be Motif based although with that setup he could also be pulling them/layering them from anywhere. Cheers. -Koichi |

| Scotts engineer is a personal friend of mine. Conrad Golding. He's his main engineer right now. I'm not sure if Kam is still working with them. But Scott hasn't been working out of the Hit Factory. He set up a studio in his mansion. That's where he's doing most of his work nowadays. |
