Sm7b pre amp suggestions

G'morning slutz,

(If this is the wrong forum mods please move this thread)So I currently have a basement studio, 13.5' x 9 x 7(treated with an auralex roominator kit), that I use mainly for tracking/mixing my own hip hop projects. I mostly record vocals with the odd acoustic guitar or bass every so often. My current signal chain is a Presonus Eureka into a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24(non dsp). As far as my limited mic collection, I own an Sm-58, an Sm-57, and a Rode Nt-1a. Monitoring through some JBL LSR2325P in case you're interested.

That being said I'm going to have some money for some gear soon (between 6 and 7 hundred) and I have already decide that I am going to be picking up a Shure Sm7b after reading many threads on this site about its versatility for the genre I'm working in.

Now I also wanted to purchase another preamp as well. The two that have been most attractive to me after doing some research are the GAP pre-73, and the Black Lion Audio B12a.

So my questions are this. Do any of you slutz have experience with the sm7b and these two pre amps? What other pre amps might you suggest would be a good match for this mic?

Anyone? I've read tons of threads about good matches for the SM7, just trying to get some opinions on my particular setup and budget

my buddy had a sm7b running thru a LA-610 and that sounded pretty cool (we ran my nt1-a through it a few times too and that was awesome too, warmed it right up)...its a little out of your price range though...but something vintagey like that will probably sound cool.

I don't have experience with this. But I have been reading up on sm7b and preamp pairing. The consensus seems to be: you need 60 db of clean gain minimum. Being that a new sm7b is $350, that doesn't leave much from a $700 budget for a solid preamp. I've also read that the sm7b is kind of over rated. Hopefully someone better informed than me will chime in.

Thanks for the input. I'd probably be looking for stuff on the used market. But saving extra money is always an option(though my want for new gear may not like it haha) Any other suggestions?
