Mpc 1k of mo6? to add to logic 7.2

I am short on funds and I am considering adding a Mo6 or a mpc1k to my software setup as they are currently about the same price on the used market. I think this would work out to be the best of both worlds. I currently have just a macBook pro, m-box 1, edirol pcr-50, record player/ a gang of vinyl{mostly classic rock, some soul/funk, and Logic 7.2.
advice please!? anybody else get down like this!? please tell me about the workflow{midi/sound] any other advice on what to buy or anything involving logic and hip hop production would also be appreciated

thanx for your help in advance

since you already have a controller you could just get the motif rack and call it a day. on the mpc it all depends on how you like to work. i like the work flow of an mpc so i got the 1000 because its all i needed. some might say your better off with battery and a trigger finger (or the mpc controller) thats all on you.

haha halfguard i get it

right on I appreciate your fast response. I trained under dave terrell for a year
http://www.graciefighter.com/?page=f...&fighters_id=1

I haven't hit the mats for a while I have been mostly focusing on my skateboarding an d school. But I have been itching for a good grappling match!! do you train w/ or w/o a gi?

ok thats a little off topic so what DAW do you use and how do you incorporate the mpc into that? I mean if I simply buy the mpc do I have enough to get it into logic. can I use a uno cable to get booth sequences running in sync and when I am happy with say a loop in logic and drums in mpc, can I then drag the midi sequence from the mpc to logic{using usb} for further editing and then trigger the drum sounds in the mpc from logic? ,( will I lose the "legendary" feel of the mpc sequencer doing it this way?) from there can I record each track individually into the m-box into logic? am I even close here?
thanks Dan

hey, dave terrell is a great fighter. cant wait to see him back in the ufc. i train w/ and w/o gi. www.americantopteam.com although not as much lately. i have 2 kids now and my son is a little baseball monster. i had to make a little choice between jiujitsu and baseball and i chose my son ofcorse (sp).

as far as the mpc, the way i do it is much simpler. i do all my drums in the mpc then i just solo them with midi into the mpc. one pass at a time. then, in pro tools i make make any timimg changes i want. i keep it simple as possible. like a i said though. the mpc is kind of a feel thing. you might not need it. logic is great for composing, so just be sure before you go and buy.

don't buy either

why not a MPC? If you have logic pro, you've already got a superior sequencer. For logic, learn the key commands for "record repeat" and "record toggle"! Also the extended parameters window has LOTS more "groove" options than the MPC. Oh yeah, that MPC note repeat thing....get a korg padkontrol!

Why not a Motif, etc? If your computer is decent, buy some rompler audio instrument and be joyfull that you never need to multi track record the external sound module and you can have instant recall!

thanks

should I focus on the exs24 or ultrabeat for drums, I cant figure out how to easily layer drum samples in ultra-beat like you can do in a mpc. Also any experience with phatmatik pro and logic. from what I have read it has a edge over recycle thats what Iam using now.

what you want is battery (for drums), a korg padkontrol, and the COLOSSUS vsti, or sampletank/sonic synth. i just swooped COLOSSUS and RA off ebay for a huge discount off retail...keep an eye open and you can probably do the same thing.

forget about the motif and the mpc....if you're looking to go cheap you can sample your records directly into logic just recording audio.

yeah you cannot layer two samples to be triggered from one pad in ultrabeat, but that is the ONLY shortcoming of this awesome synth..is it really that hard to hit two pads at the same time???

ultrabeat features that stand out to me:
-2 bands of awesome EQ on every sample
-Extensive control over amp/pitch/filter envelope
-comes with logic pro ;D
-multi-outputs
-the way you can import a sound from other patches
-rock solid
-built in distortion
-noise generator

i'm sure battery is a nice 3rd party addition, but is it really that hard to hit two pads at the same time?

def. get Battery2 and a korg padkontrol !
and sample your drums, basses, licks from vinyl into battery!

use Groove Templates (from MPC 3000 or Sp1200) with Logic....BIG DIFFERENCE

for more sounds you can easily add software-instruments...
(Apple JamPack 4....really nice classic & orchestral, strings etc. for 99,-)
maybe GMedia M-Tron, or other more oldschool, crunchy stuff that logic lacks...
or look for some hiphop-libraries for the EXS you don´t need that much more with LogicPro7......your own samples should be the focus.

if you got the $$$, maybe try a MPC4000 somewhere, you can still edit all your samples in the computer, track vocals, and mix in logic etc.
but gettin the basic beat going in hardware is not a bad option!
it´s different, it´s fun, it sounds good....there´s a reason that Disco D, Just Blaze, Mike Elizondo etc. have the 4k as their workhorse

don´t forget some good EQs and comps, tweaking the samples is often key to get a sound fittin in the first place.

cheers tom
