microcassette recorders are crazy cheap these days. Under thirty bucks.

I feel that some of my best ideas were lost because there was no way to capture them at the time.

hell yes. you think all those top 40 hits guys just wondered into a million dollar recording studio and lay down the vocals.

most of not all productions no matter the style, has the producer with a cassette recorder just recording ideas. maybe they playback a loop in the computer and record themselves singing, rapping, vocalizing a guitar.
after u get the idea, u turn to the crazy expensive mics, pres etc and record into your DAW. you go back and listen what u did on the tape recorder and follow that, cause the 1st idea, that cool idea at the time IS the million dollar idea.
same with comedy writing, and most ideas, is that 1st spark that u have to record.
