No worries!

BTW without RUN DMC, PUBLIC ENEMY & DE LA SOUL there would have never been an Arrested Development.

That's what everyone forgets. It's all interconnected, and great musicians pave the way for great musicians.

Absolutely! I've seen every one of those groups live except Tribe (I've seen Q-Tip though). Arrested Development BY FAR the best live. One of the best live shows I've seen period in rap or outside of rap. Closest second to them would be the Black Eyed Peas - great great performers.

They are legendary to me because they invented crossover before crossover invented itself for Hip Hop. The closest thing to crossover/alternative Hip Hop was Tribe. But Tribe was much more in the pocket of Hip Hop. Not to say Tribe wasn't legendary - that whole Tribe, Diggable Planets, cooled out style was pretty damn unique at the time as well.

AD didn't duplicate its mainstream success, and right now they are still reinventing themselves both for the better and worse. I find myself polarized on songs from Strong or Standing At the Crossroads - I either think they are failed experiments or very successful experiments. But experiments either way. I think given mainstream attention they would be MORE relevant now than in the 90s.

So to me, personally, I feel legendary is an appropriate title. But maybe not to someone else.

But I wouldn't take a moment's hesitance to say that if

yeah, I think they were legendary for the fact that they were one of the first, if not the first to make hip hop mainstream. I remember Tennesse was the first hip hop song my parents actually liked, lol. It paved the way for hip hop artists to make millions selling to the masses, not just the niche hip hop backpack crowd or gangbangers who were the only ones buying hip hop records at the time. And I'm sure it had a big effect on labels' willingness to sign more hip hop groups and open doors.

I'd put that song up there with rappers delight in terms of importance in the history of hip hop. So yeah definitely gives them legendary status to me.

Not to beat the dead horse...because I do like AD.

But as far as the live performances go... I don't think it's fair to compare AD to Mobb Deep or Wu Tang....or even Tribe because AD has a live band backing them every show. And live instrumentation is usually going to win out in a live performance almost hands down.

Ever been to a Tech show? Best live show of any rap artist you'll see, with the exception of maybe some HUGE budget arena shows. 0 live instruments.

Are you talking about Tech N9ne? or Immortal Technique? I've seen both.

And a Roots show, even when they were still at the grassroots level, takes a huge dump all over either of those two.

After reading most of the comments and feedback prior to listening to the album , I would have to say that overall I like the album although I did not hear a national radio song within this release. This album has a modern feel to it, mixing sounds good on most of the vocals, only one or two songs had some issues with vocals too loud or too low, but this could just be a preference thing as if you are going for that then you hit the mark. This release seems to have the core AD fans in mind, but I would also like to hear some material that can bring in new listeners who may not be exposed to what AD is about, maybe old AD mixed with new, Im not sure but I still hear that vibe that can just blow you away, its just to my ears sounds less focused overall than some of the older stuff. Im very appreciative and Im really thankful for the FREE release.

Final word...it doesnt sound local, but could use some more old school AD bite to it, if it aint broke dont fix it. Record labels wouldn't know a hit if they were HIT with it!

Tech9ne is incredible live. Definitely up there. Him and his two backup dudes - especially the guy with the big poofy hair. No band required.

When I saw AD, JJ was the only one on an actual instrument, I don't think Za or their drummer were present. Turntables/mpc, guitar, three vocalists.

The Roots put on a great show as well, but when I saw them, Red and Meth stomped it out. Also fantastic performers. I put Red and Meth in my top five for live for sure. Ironically Wu-Tang, not so impressive live.

Funny how the memory fills things in. I feel like I've seen you with a reduced band though....

this is what performers supposed to do, connecting to the crowds no matter where there gigs may be. a little youtube AD live search will create clarity to anyone in doubt.

i disagree. i like the roots i have seen them live but if i have to decide between a roots show and an immortal tech show, i am going to immortals show.
the roots are musically gifted, they are better than Tech9 and Itech but when it comes to show factor, energy and stage presence both of them are better than the roots.

Downloaded. But it seems the mp3 aren't tagged properly with artist/album/etc. because trying to put it in my library was a PIA. Took forever to figure out why it wouldn't go in properly. I think I'm still missing track 11...

Chris.....we've been having a few select folks that have had weird things happen to the downloads. I don't understand what the deal is. Some people the tags are correct and everything is there and others something is a little off. I don't understand how that can happen.

Anyways let me know if you are able to get everything and I can send DM you another link.

Jj you should consider putting your music up on bandcamp. Same system where you set price, free in Exchange for email etc. Won't be email problems like ones mentioned. Plus we can choose any format if you upload wav. It would be great to hear the mix in flac Inatead of mp3.

Any chance of getting more acapellas other than living?

It's ironic because last week we were ahead of Nas last week on the charts in Jakarta Indonesia.

Hey jjboogie. This is awesome! I saw you guys at Lollapalooza in '93. This is as good as ever. The BG vox and instrumentation reminds me of a live show. It doesn't just sound like somebody rhyming over a mixtape.

I am into ALL music, not just hip hop. This is fresh and familiar at the same time. It is the same vibe as Blakroc, and the Wu Tang Chamber Music. I only downloaded the album today, and I look forward to listening more.

I play in a three piece rock band but I go to all kinds of shows. I have seen hip hop acts like AD and the Roots. I have seen Rage Against the Machine. I have seen James Brown, Earth Wind, and Fire, Rick James. I have seen just about every possible incarnation of Parliament Funkadelic. I have seen tons of rock bands like Primus, Alice in Chains, Helmet, The Melvins...
AD is one of my all time favs though.

By the way, the mix sounds great to me so far. Sure it is not tracked to tape and mixed with a vintage Neve, but this is 2012. People are going to hate either way.

I think it is awesome to gift the record and get the material out there. The recording industry is f-ed up to promote ringtone type material and exclude viable talent. Make your money on merch and ticket sales.

I'll keep checking the website to see if you plan to do Orlando, FL area gigs. Thanks for the tracks!!!!

Thanks bro.....we have two gigs in Florida next month. Check our website for details.

Arrested Development

Please let me know what you think about the album when you get the chance.

Funny you mention a NEVE console because when I first met Speech that is exactly what he had in his home studio!

Lenny Kravitz told him to buy an old NEVE so he did. Used it for a while and of course with the advent of digital recording he eventually stopped using it.

Of course now that I'm doing engineering for the group I WISH he still had that bad boy!!! UGH!!!

Well done.

A bit loud, but I guess that is just a product of the times.

Get a bit Mel Gibson in some places, but I think its good for people to get it off their chests.

Good job, look forward to seeing you guys again when you come near town.
