jjboogie sent me a link - definitely above and beyond on his part...my man!

Had a chance to listen to the album...and damn, you guys are NICE! Really great songs, awesome message. A lot of the beats stood out to me, and many are SO creative.

Sonically...not "major label" but very well done nonetheless. My only gripe is sometimes the vocal being somewhat buried in the mix...seems like a bit too much low end on them.

Overall, great album, very inspiring and certainly a keeper.

Thank you jjboogie. I appreicate that album is free but you should get some money from it. Even via private Paypal account or whatever, some symbolic amount if not the full price (which I don't like).
I downloaded it yesterday, didn't have time to listen to it. I think the weekend would be a good time.
Where is this track with Tasha?

Still dope and aged well compared to many of their peers, not to mention still performing, doing what they love and doing it their way.

...maybe not legendary but certainly something any of us could and should aspire to.

Tennessee

It defined a great new sound in '92. 20 years later it's still soundin' great!

Thanks for the kind gift, there are many new tracks to enjoy. Y'all did a solid job & it sounds quite good to me.

May this bring many new fans

Thanks for the download!

I'm digging this. Meaningful, well delivered lyrics, nice grooves & good production.

I'm with those that say the lyrics could've been tucked a bit more, but I think I may have an issue with Speech's voice. If his voice were deeper, I'm not sure I'd have a problem with them out front like this.

Its not every song but there were a few where this was true. I cant remember the exact names right now and I am not at my DAW.

My monitors usually have the vocals sitting slightly more forward with most "commercial" mixes.

I don't think Legendary is an inappropriate title. If nothing else, AD has been ahead of its time since day one. Probably to their detriment in terms of mainstream success. But between being the first rap group to win Best New Artist and Best New Group (and therefore also being the first rap group to win two Grammies in the same year) and having three top tens at a time where gangster rap was really the in thing. This was the early 90s, so not having a "boom bap" sound was alone very different. The closest thing to boom bap was Tennessee which was a big beat style tune - which people didn't really start doing until Dizzy Rascal did "Fix Up Look Sharp."

I can't even think of any other rap song from that era that was in a major key, let alone a chart topper, let alone three.

Speech was one of the first rappers to rap, sing, and sing-rap, particularly on a mainstream level. I still can't think of any artist that legitimately does all three... not that Speech is best singer in the world but he passes the bar.

And I really can't think of any Hip Hop head who grew up in the 90s that didn't bump AD at one point or another.

It is Speech's personal studio. It is at his home but it's actually it's own separate small building.

thx for the free download! listening to it right now, sounds very good to me!
besides that, giving stuff away for free is in this case a good idea imo!
"arrested development" is, though i wouldn't call them legends, still a popular name to many. so a little reminder will help you with your live shows i guess.

I bumped Tennessee and I think Everyday People was a decent track in it's own right. But accolades aside....which were also short lived, relatively speaking...I don't see how you can call them "legendary".

As far as Speech, I'd say Mos Def has Speech licked in the sing-rap category. But that is neither here nor there. If you want to give Speech his just due on being one of the pioneers of that style, fair enough...But in order for that to be considered legendary status....it would, at least IMO, have had to been followed in suit by many other artists...and there just hasn't been many to really adopt that style.

All in all... I'd never argue that they are accomplished and original. But legendary? That's a pretty heavy title.

Wu Tang is legendary..

Run DMC is legendary..

Mobb Deep is legendary..

De La Soul is legendary..

Tribe Called Quest....

Would you group Arrested Development in with these names? I wouldn't

So Mos Def can't touch Speech in the singing department. CAN'T TOUCH!!!

Take a listen Speech's Hoopla album or any of his solo albums. And Speech is an excellent rapper. As a combination rapper/singer Speech is up there.

And I'd love to see if De La Soul or Wu Tang has woman crying while signing autographs like Arrested Development still does now in Japan.

Comparing to RUN DMC is not even remotely rational IMO.

Arrested Development is legendary not just because of their hit songs (although a long time ago) they are legendary for the live shows then and now. Not to mention still having top ten hits in Asia and touring the world rocking festivals of all kinds.

Jermaine Dupri's father Michael Mauldin who used to be the President of Columbia records was very explicit that Arrested Development "revolutionized" hip hop. Opened the door for Black Eye Peas, The Roots, Erykah Badu and so many others.......People don't realize what a shock A.D. was to hip hop and how it energized it and made it more appealing to people of all races. The legendary status comes from fans but also many many record executives in the industry as well.

Speech is a better singer, no doubt...But Mos is a way......WAY....better rapper. But it's not to say Mos is a horrible singer either.

Ad opened the door for the Roots?? Last time I checked Organix came out well before 3 Years, 5 Months and 2 Days...make no mistake.. Roots opened the door for the Roots..

Black Eyed Peas?? They were on the same field as AD when they were Atban Klann...their music was even more grass roots than it is now.

I don't see how you figure that AD opened the door for those artists...when they couldn't duplicate their own same success domestically on a 2nd album (aside from unplugged)... Right after the first three singles... Wu came in and shut the door on conscious rap along with the influx of the west coast artists like Dre and Snoop...

So I would say the cultural impact of AD was muted rather quickly.. Because ignorant rap pretty much had the game on lock.

Yea, it's cool that AD still sells out shows internationally...but then again so does Greg Nice. I'm just saying...we can make an argument for a lot of people being legendary in that regard.

Organix came out a year after Arrested Development's first record 3 years 5 Five days in the life of and was only done independently.

Arrested D. was on a major label with much broader redistribution and appeal.

Opened the door in the sense that they made that conscious style more appealing to a wider audience. Basically they blew the doors off for folks.

The Black Eyed Peas used to open for Arrested Development back in the day when they were more roots. A few years ago we did a show with them in Israel and we opened for them. Back stage they were so humble thanking A.D. for opening the doors for them and saying how much influence A.D. had on them.

Just because A.D. didn't replicate their success doesn't mean they didn't open the doors for them.

There were certainly problems from within Arrested D. they crumbled from within however they were also sabotaged by their label EMI. There is a book out there somewhere documenting this.

Anyways I really didn't want to get into a debate about who's who and what's what.....I really just wanted to spread the word about the new album.

If you check our tour dates and if we are coming to your town let me know and I will try and get you passes to the show. Cool?

peace

Was just reading this one the website. A little bit about the album.

Quote:
Standing at the crossroads (SATCR) was primarily created during AD’s Australian, New Zealand, Bali and Malaysian tours. This project recorded entirely on a mac laptop, used sampling and mp3 chopping to build a cornerstone that would be embellished with Za & JJ’s live instrumentation. Add to that a cameo appearance from original member Rasa Don on the soulful “Nobody Can Replace your Love” & the eclectic “Everywhere I Go” also featuring Abigail Washburn a celebrated, claw-hammer banjo artist. It’s said that the songs were created with inspiration from early AD videos playing silently in the background. You can tell the award winning video for Living has inspiration from past visuals of the group.
