IK Multimedia CSR Plate Reverb = LOVE

I am in love with the IK CSR Plate Reverb. I don’t know why it took me so long to discover how bad ass this thing is. I mostly use convolution reverbs, so I don’t mess around too much with CSR and totally forgot that it has a plate reverb. Maybe 20 songs ago or something I pulled it out and good lord. I love this thing. I still use my lex960 and bricasti plate convos for certain things when I need a basic no-nonsense plate. But I would say that I’m now using CSR Plate the majority of the time I want a plate reverb. It's especially fun when I need really long plates.

LOVE IT!

Do you have the hall and the room too? I really like the room unit...I seen all three for 50 bucks and picked them up and was really impressed.

I'm not a big fan of convolution verbs.

CSR is cool, but the Lexicon verbs rule my world right now.

@ Thunderdan, I have all the CSR verbs. I don't really mess with the room and hall one as I tend to like convolutions for that. So honestly, I couldn't tell you much about the other CSR verbs - not enough experience with them.

Here's the thing: everyone knows that I definitely mix with attitude and a big part of the textures I get comes from my use of delays and reverbs - particularly springs and plates. I'm not always going for super smooth and pristine plates. Sometimes I need just a little attitude in them and this can be frustrating. But the CSR is able to go from lush to giving me just a little attitude. And more importantly, I can get that flexibility whether it's a shorter plate or a STUPID LONG plate. I just like the thing. Maybe there are other things out there that will make me just as happy with plates. But I have this, and it works, really well, and super fast and easy, no need to look further. Price is nice too.

CSR is a solid bundle for sure. I prefer Sonnox and Lexicon Native for most of my mixes currently, but the CSR has a certain 'character' to its reverb. It's perfect when you're looking for just 'that sound'.

CSR is some old school software reverb indeed. Still my favourite goto weapon for drums. It's not all too clean and pristine sounding by any means, and that's what makes it different for me. I leave convolution stuff and lexicon reverbs for vocals, strings, and pads mostly.

As some of you guys know, IK is reportedly going to release CSR in 64bit with some extra features. I hope it's sometime soon.

Yeah, over on KVR, Brian from IK said this:

Last year I said on KVR that we would have 64-bit CSR this year. And we intend on sticking to that. In fact... there may be a few surprises in th e works with CS R.

IK first mentioned this a longer time ago, and by the looks of it they are still just working on it. They have a lot of work cut out for themselves if they plan on upgrading their whole line of products.

I personally would rather see an update for Miroslav Philharmonik.

That entire IK collection with those reverbs, the old Amplitube, heck the old T-Racks clipper, and there was this MB limiter, which really wasn't a limiter, but was a great plug-in... all that stuff was always very serviceable back when there weren't so many options. The thing about the reverbs are that they are so configurable and could be dialed to be very characterful and gritty, very late 80s early 90s to my ears. Haven't used the verbs in ages, I might have to get it in some time.

I could never get that CSR to sound like a real reverb. Sounded too metallic. Maybe I'll take another listen too it. Which patch are you guys using.
I always use the TC VSS/DVR2/NonLin2 and Avids Revibe, hell even the stock D-Verb sounded better.
Let me know when you have a chance.

Thanks,

Reverb is so tough to use correctly. A lot of people focus too much on the big long tails and forget how important Ambience is to the track. Many times a verb that sounds metallic is meant to be tuned tighter and shorter or used as the snare verb.

Ha, yes I do agree but, if I remember correctly, every patch sounded metallic even on short sound ala snrs.
Again, I just redownloaded the plugin as I got it for free as one of the package deals and I'll see if I can make it work in my workflow as I'm always looking for great reverbs or stuff I don't normally use.

I just used it on a synth, and heck yes it is metallic. At least the tail is, but it can be toned down quite a bit.

This aint no creamy wide airy reverb unit. It is harsh, grimy and crude. I really like it. But the presets pretty much all need to be tuned in, especially the HF tail hz cutoff, timing and level.

Actually I had to take it off the synth, too much distortion was redundant, but the drums were fed into the bus and works out ok. It's staying.
