byerdynamics 770s vs 990s for monitoring

Moved in to a new apartment and i could not really mix on my monitors because of the landlord ,so now i prefer to mix on some old sonys and just bring them to my second home of a studio(where i mix with my engineer buddy)
kind of balling on a budget

was looking at the byerdynamics 770s and 990s wondering what would be a better choice for monitoring and getting a decent pre mix ..or if any other brands/models in the 220$ range will fit my needs.

Thanks for any responses

Are the 990s open-back?

I have the 770s. They're pretty nice for tracking but I wouldn't rely on them for mixing. Open-back headphones would be a better choice for mixing as long as isolation and bleed (when tracking) isn't a problem

I've got the dt 770's as well. Theyve got loads of bass and you can mix on them but they aren't great for that. I think the general consensus among engineers and producers is that open back headphones are best for mixing.
I would check out the 880's too I've heard great things about them also.
I was under the impression that the 880's were actually the go to beyer's for mixing in that price range.
