Need new sounds to try something new.

Hello slutz, I know this question gets answered a million times, but its 2012, meaning there are new possible answers if that makes sense.

Lately my sound library is got me stuck. It was bound to happen since I am not one of those producers to buy every vst that comes out.

I recently bought Omnisphere, and i LOVE the vst, however, it is not suitable for hip hop. The patches and everything is way to complex and way too full sounding for hip hop. I am not complaining since I do alternative rock and Omnisphere is probably the only synth I need, so do not recommend Omnisphere.

The only VSTs I use/bought is Nexus 2 (with a couple of Expansions such as Hollywood, Analog, Millennium Pop, etc), XPAND 2, Alicia's Keys, & Battery 3. I also have Halion Sonic but that is because of Cubase 6 but I am staying in all Pro Tools to master 1 DAW. I also have the Motif XS Rack, but it kills me when I am in the zone, so I tend not to use it. I love all software.

My frustration is that with these vsts I CONSTANTLY find myself making the same 808/trap/dirty south shit. I mean I love it and it is easy/fun to make, but I need a musical change. I want to do arrangements like J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League does. Very moving, classy, and 'elite' beats. Plus these compositions are much more musically complex. I need VSTs that can start doing these productions. Does anyone know what type of stuff they use? I am thinking of buying EZ Drummer since that is there drums, and maybe Miroslav Philharmonik. I am open to any other suggestions.

Thank you.

BTW, does anyone know if pro tools 9 has a sample BROWSER? Like the one in FL Studio? It truly kills my workflow by opening up Battery 3, then having to navigate gigabites of my drum samples in its very small menu! thanks again

Umm, not trying to insult you but it's not the VSTs doing the production...

The answer is in your question ... the things in bold ^^^. And what I mean is that new VSTs won't give you the change you're looking for. Yes, it's nice to add some fresh sounds to your library, but they WON'T make you make better music, without the THINGS IN BOLD ^^^

TheArk, listen to the robot!

Bender, good posts! You said pretty much everything that needs to be said in response to the op!

Instead of starting to throw around vst recommendations, you went straight to the heart and tackle the the "real problem" which has very little to do with any new vst instruments!

Good to see a few people with some sense here!

The guy above is obnoxious, sorry man but your always been condescending in one way or another.

But yeah man Omni is really a great VST. It is all in how good of a producer you are, trust me. Keep studying and keep Omnisphere.

Those super classy justice league tracks are jacked loops, puff daddy style...If thats the vibe you're trying to get on you gotta start with "elite" "classy" samples.

You couldn't be more wrong. They compose all that stuff and have musicians come and lay it down live.

I dunno man, but I think kontakt is a good call really. That and massive maybe.
Omnisphere may have a lot of real full sound stuff but it doesn't have to be like that, you can adjust all kinds of parameters in the synth it's self and eq it so it's not so full sounding.

If you want to do something besides trap listen to anything but trap and force yourself to do that kind of stuff when you sit down at your daw.
learn how to make some oldschool 90's sh!t is what I would say. That boom bap that really has groove.

Justice league stuff, the good stuff, is pretty orchestrated so some good strings and brass would be a good start IMO. Maybe the eastwest stuff but look around at all your options and see if there's some lesser known ,but just as good if not better, sample libraries that can help you. The disadvantage with a lot of these sample libraries is that most are VERY CPU and ram intensive.

I would say first and foremost, find YOUR sound.
It may come by way of a plugin or two but in all likelyhood it will be how you manipulate it and use it. And for that you'll want to learn the vst in and out, all it's quirks and advantages disadvantages.

dude you have omnisphere which is an extremely powerful synth and very flexible as well. It has some great sampled waveforms in there too. learn some synthesis. design your own sounds. You can adjust the presets in their too. It can be used for hip-hop, I know a lot of people who use it. I use it too.

get a sampler (hardware or vst), find samples (via vinyl or internets), chop, mangle, incorporate other tools , and create/record.

think outside the box. (not in hardware/software sense)
stop relying on commercial products to dictate what you make and how you make it.
