| COLOSSUS Fellas, what are the strong/weak points of this synth? The group buy brings it down to half price...so if I ever buy now will be the time http://www.soundsonline.com/sophtml/...ml?sku=EW-164G |

| strong: very realistic sounding natural instruments, high quality weak: big size -> big loading times |

| yeah the size of some of these libraries is nuts now. I just bought and installed Ivory and it's over 40gigs for just pianos!!! sounds incredible though, puts my fantom to shame |

| I bought it then bought a triton rack, as I was so disappointed with the instruments. Nice guitars and new age ensembles, but generally not up to scratch. I think software romplers are the future, but this and hypersonic didn't have the sound quality (despite the size) I was looking for. |

The sample songs sounded ok, but I wasn't floored (life after I heard BFD, for example). For $500 it still seems like a great deal, especially if you don't have any decent samples yet. But, I already have some nice softsynths and a nice keyboard....I don't really need to fill up my hard drive with 32 GB's right now.

rompler sounds have all kind of effects on them out the box. if you want to compare sounds, switch of the effects, i would be surprised if you still will find a triton rack better than colossus as far as realistic natural sounds. but i think the question should be: do i need realistic sounding instruments for hiphop and r'n'b? some need them, some don't, i like the limited sounds of workstations, for me it's the sound of hiphop and r'n'b and i don't need 40gb pianos.

| Yeah HUGE dissapointment.... Some stuff is cool but way more hype than substance. and the load times are soooooo long... It kills the creative process. Even worse I bought a bundle that included RA.... Now RA is SOOOOOOO bad i cant even tell you... GARBAGE!!!!!!!! |

| Oh maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. This is my opinion only. maybe some people like it but this is what I think: If I said it sucks balls, i would be giving it more props than it deserves. Its that bad...... Its a waste of blank DVD's.... Everything kinda sounds the same.... Like that bad flute sound on the old synths years ago. You change the patches but when you play the sounds your like what the hell is that supposed to be???? As far as realism??? Maybe all the weird instruments change tone and fall out of pitch after a few seconds in real life. I dont know what a sdkjsdjsjds;jgdh instrument found near cactus #399 in the deserts of angola is supposed to sound like but if it dont stay in key then it does me no good. On top of that the load times are horrrible. Collosus and most the kontact based synth stuff I have is like that too but at least after all that loading you get a piano or a guitar. Not someone squeesing the life out of a duck..... A fake ass duck at that... I hope eastwest reads this and sends me something else or sends the dude that made it to my house so I could whoop his ass for jacking me. I would feel much better if the dude legitamitley robbed me for that money with a gun instead of hustling me. Im embarresed that I bought it. I mean that honestley. I would never show it to someone and be like listen to what I got... Thats how bad it is. I could go on for an hour. Stick to the usual suspects dont believe the hype. I heard a couple cool sounds nothing major but I wont use them on principle because the package is so bad. If it was on sale for .99 cents I wouldnt buy it again. The absolute worst product I have ever seen in my life. Id rather have sounds of a chia pet getting dropped out of different buildings onto different streets. Did I mention it sucks??? Because it does.... |

hmm maybe you've bought the other version of Ra with all the bad sounds on it :-) But the ra i have is quite nice and I like it. It's probably not worth what I paied for it, but I like it nevertheless. Its not a collection u use on its own though, I usually only use one instrument from ra at a time. Sometimes layered with a synth. It can make a small sound really pop out if you program it well. YMMV as always... best Dussel

| Collossus is great. The sounds are unprocessed so its not going to have that WOW factor like you get with a triton. You just get the meat, then its up to you to come up with the spices. Better have a fast computer with a boatload of RAM though. The most frustrating thing is sitting there waiting for sounds to load when you are searching for the right one. .. kills the process. RA is freakin amazing! If you're looking for processed, unnatural sounding synth crap then its not for you. You can get some really realistic sounding percussion grooves going. I love the strings too. I've made some amazing sounding productions using RA. The perc sounds are great for layering with the more standard sounds (808 snare for ex) to get more depth. Like anything that's good, it takes a little work. Anyway, my $.02 Ants |
