i have fantom and 88 oxygen 8 midi board. the reason i ask the question is that i heard that in the motiffs board u have more sound control for realism with guitars and strings and bass. or can i do the same with sound module and fantom etc. thks peace

If i was you, i would look into the vast range of soft synths. They are in GB's and blow the romplers out the water.

I own quite a few synths ranging from Triton Rack, Triton Extreme 61, Motif ES8, XV 5050 and Proteus 2000 sound modules. I am planning to sell most of them. Nice sounds, but compared to soft synths they dont stand up IMO.

A nice soft sampler is great, but also look into the Spectrasonics stuff, the Vienna Symphonic Library (expensive though), Native Instruments, etc.

I just got the Motif Rack ES and it is awesome. It has a remote multi editor which allows you to control all of the programs from your computer while using your DAW, not to mention the sounds in it are excellent. I would highly recommend it.

I am a versatile keyboardplayer and played and own(ed) a LOT of synths, softsynths and vintage keys ...

I must say, softsynths I use for eg Piano... I real Fender Rhodes, just really sounds and plays much nicer than any plugin or sampled rhodes ... of course.

As for digital modules / synths , I have found that the Roland JD990 is still AMAZING and that is a synth from beginning 90ties .. the ancestor of the JVseries and for some weird reason sounds much better... has character ..
the same applies for Motif series and Kurzweil ...
I have found Korg and all Rolands after JD990 to be really nice the first time you hear them, and then they make you sick after a few weeks .. also, they do not seem to have changed anything ever since mid90ties in terms of synthesis engines/technolgy...

Absynth = really nice to have for pads etc softsynth ... Intakt/Kontakt libraries in general are wicked from Ra to their orchestras ...
The real 'synth-sounds' though, I usually will use my outboardsynths ... part of it being the controls, part of it being, that I just really dig the sound of these outboard oscilators and filters ... I have not found one plugin that can truly imitate the sound of a real analog synth ... there's one from Korg actually that comes close .. the MS20 ... that's true...
Still, in the mix, with different sources from Softsynths mixed with real synths, I found the overal soundpalette to become much more interesting ...

Sometimes, I play a Moog Prodigy lead through a Roland Space Echo and tweak the parameters as I am playing ...
For real, no plugin can sound like that... Character is something very much important .. I hear a lot of 'too clean' ' too slick' around ... and that is the softsynths and plugins...

Just like many gearslutz here agree that a great outboard compressor will usually add more character than the plugs, same with keys.. although the blend of both real and virtual seems to give satisfactuary results.
