DBX 160A/166XS/266XS vs Presonus Eureka

Hey Guys,

I have been watching these forums carefully and have had many answers answered. This time I am stumped...

I traded in my Art Pro Audio Voice Channel for a Presonus - Eureka, but now I am double guessing myself if I made the correct choice maybe getting a DBX model would of been a better outcome? Looking at the 160A, 166XS etc, with a $200+ pre-amp. What is everybody's thoughts? Any feed back would be great!

BTW, I am using it for Hip-Hop Vocals, so I liked the EQ setting that came along with Presonus - Eureka , it also has a Class-A Pre Amp. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time!

no experience with the eureka, but I like the dbx160a. It will have a place down the road even when you have more expensive equipment.

I've had friends have some bad experience with the eureka quality as well if that helps any. They actually changed the tubes in them and says it makes it sound much better.

Awesome thanks guys I appreciate the feedback! I guess I will need to trial and error at this point and see what works for me

I failed to mention I was using a Mbox mini, with pro tools 9. So letting everybody know just in case that is helpful information. I could also give samples of my music if that is helpful to know about the equipment I am asking about!

The Eureka has a Class A transformer-coupled Preamp. Power amplifiers are classified primarily by the design of the output stage and are designated Class A, B, AB, D, G, or H. In a Class A preamp, the output circuits are always on for the entire cycle of signal swing or the bias current flows at all times. As a result, Class A preamps have the most linear design, with no crossover distortion, and they deliver purer, clearer, and more musical results than the Class AB designs that are found in many preamps. Eureka contains a Class A discrete input buffer followed by a dual-servo gain stage. This yields ultra-low noise and wide gain control, allowing you to boost desirable signal without increasing unwanted background noise.

I don't like the comp in the Eureka at all. The DBX 266 and 166 are OK for live but any plugin is better IMO. The DBX160a is the one to look at. Great comp for it's price. Get a used one if you can. You never really outgrow these. Always useful to have.
