Beat Arrangement ?

I'm just wondering how some folks go about creating their beats? Like, start with the hook then strip it down for the verse etc..? I dont have too much of a problem coming up with melodies or beat patterns. I seem to be spending the most time on when to drop somethin or when to add other elements. I dont want the track to get boring. What I've been doing lately is opening a song in soundforge an try to see when people switch things up. Anyone got any other ideas to what I could do to speed things along ? Thanks.

get songs you like , and are what your going for. import them into your sequencer and put markers (or whatever for referencing parts) and follow the same arrangement. when u r composing.

hip hop is pretty boring if u dont have the vocals. so following an already establish hit that you know the arrangement works. usually it sounds like a loop just going and going on and on, only with vocals you can tell that its advancing. but if u check pro beats, you listen to certain details to vary the beat every 8 bars. even for a little thing.

also try out to copy a song by importing it to the first track and muting it and soloing muting solo etc. copy beat, copy melody , copy harmony etc. sometimes u can tell what came 1st. and next time you are doing your song, youll know almost by instinct where goes where and when. and the fills and tuenarounds etc .
