How to get a wide sound?

I'm looking to get a sound like the beginning of this video

Lighters Reloaded ft. Ahmir, Chilla Jones, & Alyssa Marie - YouTube

is this panning or a chorus effect or what?

Thanks guys for reading!

Harmonies panned out. Alternatively try some doublers, the biggest the delay between left and right the wider it seems (check phase though)

There's any number of stereo widening plugins and boxes you could use.

I use Waves Center and Digidesign's AIR Stereo Width plugins.

There's also a bunch of phase tricks and such that can be used for widening.

That opening part is very wide because of polarity issues. Listen in mono and two tracks vanish. Try this. Double track a vocal line. Copy the second track and pan these hard left and hard right. Reverse polarity on one side only.
This sounds very good but always remember if it is played on a mono system that element will be gone.

Google/Youtube "Pensado's Place"

Dave went through a lot of great "widening" techniques.

I was not aware of this but after having done a little research I'm going to have to play with it. It makes since when you think about those big phasey pads.

I think I'd rather do that then make something so wide that it disappears in mono lol

If you do a search on here you'll find a wealth of tricks to use. And as someone else said, Pensado did a whole episode on this.

If you want it wide, use the Haas effect.

Keep your low end stereo.
Don't apply any global HPF.

The idea is to use 1 or 2 elements and make those wide for complete mix to sound wide
