I really like mine on vox especially. Tried the Apollo out and returned it. About to sell it and get the 8 ch version. I hope that i do not miss the additional features too much. Have a bit of outboard gear and was doing more patching than I wanted to. At 96 - 192k I think you will be able to use it as long as you want to.

IMHO, don't do it. It's a lateral move that will not improve your conversion and more than likely will cause issues with pro tools that are not there with the integrated avid hardware. The mbox pro 3 has very good conversion.

woah idk, I've only used an mbox3 a few times and I don't own one... but i've always been VERY impressed with the rosetta conversion. But whats your monitoring setup? Room treatment?

That is an interesting take on the situation. I just assumed he would using WITH the MBox via digital i/o or somethng, not replace it entirely.

Pop D has a good argument, if you are replacing one with the other. I use mine as a standalone fed one of a couple of soundcards via digital i/o. I retain driver stability and compatibility. Using an Apogee FW interface with PT, is something I can not speak on.

It sounds good though... The soft limiting on drums when finsessed correctly....man It usually gets chosen over my other conversion options for that purpose alone.

Mbox 3 Pro has better converters than mbox 3. I use it on the road. I used to have a rosetta 800 years ago. It's a lateral move to me.

My current room is NS10's, Barefoot MM27's, Griffin G1.5 mains w LFE 15 sub in a Francis Manzella designed room.

@Pop D

I have read that the 200 (192k) has better conversion than the 800, supported by the fact that it came on the market a bit later. My understanding it that it has to do with the filtering circuit, analog stages, and the chips. I don't have the 800 yet, but when I get it, I will crack it open to confirm at least the chips. Hopefully its not a step too far backwards... or I will be quite salty. LOL

One issue you will have to deal with is that latest version of Pro Tools does not have a 3rd party converter offset box. Avid is diabolical with these things. So the added converter latency when using the rosetta will be a problem.

Record Offset for 3rd Party Hardware? WTF!!

That's possible. The mbox 3 Pro is also derived from newest converter tech used in new Avid I/O's which are excellent. At this level it's all a matter of taste. I just stated if it was me I would be happy with mbox 3 Pro. I would spend the $ on something else especially given that Avid is throwing up road blocks for 3rd party integration.

I agree that many converters are better than before. I have heard good things about recent Avid boxes

What didn't you like about the Apollo? I'm thinking about getting one. I have a 003r now.

Sorry about the thread hijack lol

There is an MBOX 3 vs Apogee & others converters comparison on the Avid website. Make you sure you have a look at that first. The MBOX 3 pro is excellent sound quality wise. Why do you feel its stopping you from making dope beats?

If you want/need the plugs, get it. It is not bad and wont hold you back. As Pop D suggests about the MBox 3 pro the converters are pretty good these days after a certain point. A matter of taste.
I didn't find them to be an upgrade at all. In fact I found myself using more plugs to compensate for the difference. Especially on drums I found myself wanting to retrack with the Rosetta 200. I like how R200 handles low/ mids and the highest highs.

Keep in mind I can live without the UA plugs. If you can't you will still be able to mix a good record on the Apollo. Might be a step up from the Digi box.

Yeah this is like the 3rd or 4th time I saw a good word on the Mbox 3 Pro, on and offline. I hear the 192 joint by Avid was quite decent as well.

It's been a few years since I gave avid any of my money. Their service was always awful when I worked with them.
