Small room (10'x12') monitor recommendations for hiphop/bass-heavy mixing Was thinking about Blue Sky Pro Desk, but they might be too much for a room of this size. Primary monitors now are Alesis Monitor Ones with a Tannoy sub, which actually don't suck as bad as one might expect(couldn't use them w/o the sub, though). I've gotten accustomed to them, but realize that I'm missing a lot of upper mid detail. Probably want to keep them, since I am used to them, but add another (better) system to take over as primary monitoring. Recommendations appreciated. I probably want something with a sub or if not otherwise excellent lowend. Thanks!

Not sure if you've already treated your room, but if not this is key to hearing your monitors right. Go for DIY - and not foam!!! Once you've sorted that out, I'd look at Genelec or Dynaudio. Remember to mix at low volumes - as much as you want to crank it, you get way better results like this. To me a smaller set from the 8000 series would be sweet. If you buy monitors and put them in an untreated room you're being lazy and they'll sound like crap. Peace. Rez

You got acoustic treatment properly taken care of? Cause I'd suggest a grip of Owens Corning 403, especially in the corners.

Any others? Would I need to use a sub with the 8040s? Can you still get the Series 1 V8s or would have to look used? Thanks

I think the sky system one, or the pro desk would be the best choice. I used the sky system one for a few sessions in a room smaller than yours, and I cant stop thinking about them!!!!! They were incredible in referencing the low end. AA. | |
