Waves L1 on vox? I've heard of some people using the Waves L1 on vocals. How is this done in practice? Is it used as the only form of compression or do you put it after another comp plug? Right now, I compress through hardware on the way in and use a litte Rvox or Rcomp after that. Do u think I could even benefit from using the L1?

It's something you have to try and see..it may fit the song...it may not. Try the Track Slammer preset and play with it.

I've been using it more and more lately, mostly in up-beat dance oriented tracks.. I also track with an 1176 and then use plugs/hardware in the mix. Sometimes the L1 just holds a vocal in place just right.. I usually go with a slow release (200-400) and about 3-5db reduction.. But again, it depends on the vocal.. just eperiment. Good luck.

sometimes it can work - i'm using L2 but with long release - like 400 ms and few times i actually erased most of my automation points after realising that L2 did automated vocal rides better then me ![]()

| Lives for gear | i've used L2 before... i used it for taste.. it doesn't sound right for every track but it can be used. i usually track with compression and use C4 and rvox together when mixing |

i use the rcomp like at the 8:1, then limit it with the L2 , the vox come out nice and thick, and sit in the mix perfect. just my 2 cents............not 50.

You can use it on things that are hard to tame, but it can also really **** up the vocal if your not careful.

i guess i look at loudness maximizers and compressors the same way... like MSG, you gotta be careful because if you use too much, you'll get a headache
