Anyone use it as their go to pre? What mics are you using with it? I was thinking about picking up the new A2D since I don't have nice converters.. |

BTW, I would also be interested in using it as a Synth DI at times.

I am also interested in the use of this box. Also is the API 312 a good pre amp for multiple passes of audio( Many tracks D/I from keys, Vox and End of folcrom. Or is it the type of color that will build up to much for the bright open pinned to the edges music of today?I used to love API EQ's(550) even with settings flat for the wetness it gave the tone of the signal passing. Different but not unlike an 1176! Also while I find my Fireface DA's excellent the AD could be a notch up. I find on two passes through the unit the AD coloration becomes degrading to the signal. So this could be my ref convertor for mixdown from folcrom! |

I've used API's for major label rappers, and have always got good results.... The A2D would probably be a good fit for you, especially if you don't have a good converter. I will say the GTQ is probably my absolute favorite vocal preamp. My latest rack setup is the A2D & GTQ (into the "A/D in" on A2D) connected to the Digi 002 via SPDIF, and I don't think I'll ever feel the need to chase after more preamp flavors....

Tony, you ever heard any Daking micpres? If so, what's your opinion? I'm not gonna get a chance to A/B for quite a while. |

I would probably concentrate on getting other tools, rather than selling your preamps to buy other preamps.. EQ and compression is at least equally important as preamps, yet people seem to get fixated on preamps and forget. | |
