Thread Starter | Help! Fixing bad recording
Hi Slutz, Long time reader, first time posting. And first of all: please excuse my bad englisch skills. My problem: I got this client from Germany and he has a deadline for his record. Now I have recieved the protools session by the recording studio. The recordings are the worst I have ever heard. After calling the studio manager he told me the recordings are flat, no eq, no compression. But back then they had some construction workers around. They took some of the auralex off the walls in that vocal booth to get access to any sanitary stuff. He also told me that the chain was U87, LA610, Rosetta. Now I have to fix this. And yesterday it took a lot of time to cut the annoying frequencys to get a well balanced vocal. But nothing helped without losing all the life of the vocals. So do you got any ideas? File is attached. Many Thanks! |

If the recording is bad, there is very little that one can do to fix it in the mix. The studio that sent you the project should have Known this, and if you didn't Know, now you do. The plosives are too strong, and there's too much sibilance You can make improvements, but you won't be able to "fix" the vocals, per se. Peace. |

gave it a 5 min attempt because I straight LOL'd at "J'los titten" Don't understand the language at all so I can't hear it the way I'd like.

you are going to have to de-esse and get the pencil tool out to take care of that sibilance. Its a workable recording tho. I heard worse

Thanks for your help! Now I have solved the problem with den RenDeesser and the RenEQ (real crazy settings to get a nice sound). Both plugins did a good job. Thanks! |
