This is a crazy question Sequencing in protools

Is anyone here using an MPC as a sampler with protools as the sequencer OR just sequencing in protools?

Since the MPC Ren announcement, I've been playing around in protools abit tryin to use its sequencer and it's not so bad. I created some cool groove quantize patterns in Beat detective and now I feel I can push protools in ways I can't push my 4000. Getting past not having note erase wasnt as bad as i thought it would be. What i've been doing is looping say 2-8 bars and then setting a selection/locate point. I keep the Locate pane visible in the top of my screen and anytime i delete anything, I tap the locate and it keeps me in a 2 or 8 bar loop etc.... Instead of making a groove quantize for an entire beat, I've been creating just kick or just snare grooves and i use those as my input quantize. It helps to use groove quantize because I can set the note duration as part of the groove and it creates an interesting mix turning it off/on. (sometimes I leave the note duration on and turn off the Velocity and timing from the groove quantize). I get around not having note erase by using Score view. it works easier for my brain if i'm selectin a group of notes and deleting them than just erasing blocks/bars.

I'm figuring there a way to record the note repeat from the MPC to trigger another sequencer so i can record the note repeats according to the quantization in pro tools.

All in all, I'm still tapping out the beat on my MPC. But it doesn't "sound" the same. It grooves pretty good (faster than it comes together in my 4k for some grooves) but using battery/Kontakt seems to be missing something to me. So ive been loading sounds in my MPC and using it as a module. (sounds crazy b/c I never thought I'd use my MP without using the sequencer.)

I'm thinking with a mix of this and placing drums on the grid/quantizing the wave. I like what i'm getting. (May pick up an Emax rack or something now ).

I have been having issues with pro tools crashin with huge kontakt/battery3 sessions. (I have to use battery for drums since Kontakt won't let u send individual sounds to outputs. Did these people never use an s1000 DAMN) So i'm using an MPC as a sound module. Who woulda thouht this day would come

The only question I see here is this: "Is anyone here using an MPC as a sampler with protools as the sequencer OR just sequencing in protools?"

Is this the CRAZY question you're referring to?

In cubase you have media bay, so I can audition stuff on the fly and just drag a kick i like straight to an audio track.

If pro tools had a media bay like cubase i'd have no complaints.

oh and if Structure was a bit more like logics ESX24
You can drag a file in to protools in the edit window.
Pro tools does have a browser where you can audition sounds.

use The Digibase and workspace browsers not the file import.. Also check out Region grouping and Region looping. They help a lot when im dropping drums on the grid.
