Working in Pro tools - Need more synths and sounds - Reason or Komplete

I'm looking into either getting reason 6 to slave to pro tools or komplete 8 to expand my stock pro tools sounds. I've used xpand2 to its fullest and am finally get sick of it. I need new synths, new samplers, choirs, strings, everything to make some new beats, a little electronic stuff and just anything to add as elements to other tracks. Obviously the downfall of getting reason is learning another daw, I did use reason 4 for the longest time and know how to use it to an extent, but I dont fully know anything about reason 6 in general. Also, having to use it as a rewire is kind of lame, but hey, if its good then whatever. I know reason is written superbly in the coding to use almost no cpu compared to pro tools or the komplete set, so thats an advantage. I'm done rambling, I'm just trying to figure out if I should invest in reason 6 or komplete 8 this tax season.

Reason:
Advantages: Low CPU, tons of new sounds
Disadvantages: Not a plugin really, another daw, huge learning curve

Komplete:
Advantages: TONS of new sounds
Disadvantages: Huge cpu toll on samplers and things a like (from what I hear)

I need your input.

well there is a third alternative. you could get the instrument expansion pack for protools. Thatll give you hybrid, full edition of structure, and a few other plugins. Structure will give you a bunch of good meat and potatoes sounds and hybrid will give you great synths. otherwise I would go with Komplete. I have Komplete and use it in PT. stuff like Kontakt isnt really a resource hog. It just can take a few moments to load patches compared to xpand. Another option in the meantime is you can go to airusersblog.com and buy the various sound libraries for structure player. The price for them looks good. I havent bothered to buy them because I have Komplete and a bunch of other stuff already lol.

I completely forgot about the expansion pack. That is another good alternative. I'm afraid of buying Komplete actually because of how massive (no pun intended) its gonna be. And its gonna be a TON to learn. Great value though compared to buying the plugs individually.

After I purchased Komplete 7 it has been my go to bundle I even managed to get some tutorials to learn some basic programming with Massive and so far it has been fun and I have been creating some solid sounds. its an overwhelming package with a variety of possibilities for all genres but see if you can take the time to learn some of the more useful instruments if possible, it would be worth it in the long run if you decide to get some other units in the future, but then again what are you mainly producing? strictly hip hop?

actually I mainly produce 3 random genres. Metal, Rap/hip hop, and Acoustic. Metal is my predominant genre, but a lot of times I'm putting midi orchestration behind the music, like choirs, strings, organs and whatnot. Though metal is my predominant genre, most of the work I get around town through friends is for rap, which I started making beats years ago just for pure fun and it evolved into a full time thing. Obviously for acoustic, I wont be using much of Komplete for this. I've been wanting to get into some electronic music too just to expand my knowledge and taste so I want something that will be able to cover all of those grounds. I'm thinking Komplete will fit the bill.

IMO it doesn't make much sense to grab Reason if you already have Pro Tools just for more sounds. If you already had Reason and a ton of refills that's where rewire makes more sense imo. That said I'd say go Komplete or even with other vsts and buy what you actually need vs all the extras you don't. Not knocking Komplete but do you really need everything in Komplete or are you just looking to get as many sounds as possible?

Nope, I don't need everything in Komplete. I only really cared about a few of the plugs initially. Massive, Kontact, Reactor. But if you do the math (prices from their site):

Massive - 199
Kontact - 399
Reactor - 399

thats 1000 bucks right there.

Komplete is 499..and you get 24 extra plugins and tools.

So to get the three plugs I wanted for 500 bucks less and 24 more plugs and tools, I really can't pass that up. Even if I dont want 3 of the things in there, its still a WAY smarter deal lol.

i do not know one individual that uses all the material that comes with Komplete... same hold true for Reason... not everyone uses "every" device in Reason either... the key is... the bang for the buck for each purchaser...

What's up, Joe? I would try and find a used Virus TI desktop. TI is for total integration, It works as a plugin that makes it really sweet for your purposes but no tax on your CPU. The sounds are SICK!!

...or Omnisphere.

save the money of course I am just saying do what makes sense for you. if Komplete makes more sense go that route if it doesn't do something else. IMO Komplete is great for Kontakt alone unless you are fine with Kontakt Player.

just curious... what experiences do you have with Komplete? owner of komplete? or an owner of any products in Komplete? or are you basing your opinons on something you read somewhere?

i ask because massive, absynth, reaktor, fm8 are pretty nice synths in their own right... IMO!!!

especially...compared to the synths in Reason 6!!! IMO!!!

i personally own both komplete ultimate 8 and Reason 6!!!!

i am talking from hands-on experiences!!!!

how about you?
