Thread Starter | Which Mic?
I'm trying to achieve that classic warm sound from a u47,u67,u87 and Avalon 737 for a less expensive price. I found a Mic that I have read has similar characteristics, so here we go the Blackspade Acoustics UM17 has a great price point if in fact it carry's the quality that the u47 or u87 does. Can any one chime in and offer their opinion.

I think your definition of warmth is seriously flawed. a 737 is not warm sounding at all. All these 3 mics, sound completely different to each other, and 1 or the other may not sound right on your voice. You can't expect to have comparable sound with these mics and pay less. And no, the Blackspade mics are not alternatives to these great mics. I suggest you try the mics out in person, and try some within your price range, or just buy/sell mics until you find one that you like a lot on your voice. Anyway it's unfair to compare a 1k mic with a 12k mic, it's not even in the same sonic league at all, and it's logical, it costs this much more to get that extra 10% quality! Anyway, I suggest you re-evaluate, what you think would work for you, compared to what would actually work in your situation. |

I always recommend the Bock Audio 195 in this $$$ range. Way versatile and very classy. The Audio Technica 4047 is cool and vintageyish for closer to $500. If you want something very u47ish, save just a little more and get a Pearlman TM series mic. |
