Top List of Free Plugins

I am interested in seeing a list of some of the best plugins that are free. Please specify whether it's Mac or Windows. Also, list some rare ones that people may not know. I like the Alchemy Player and Blue Cat plugins.

I don't wanna get accused of doing a Pete Marriott, but you can get my take on a couple killer free plugs in this interview.

KVR: Variety of Sound & Vladg Sound used on hit record from Chris 'Von Pimpenstein' Carter

In short: Molot compressor, Bootsy Nasty DLA & Ferric TDS

This is what gearslutz is all about. Good thread!
Crystal synth isn't bad either. Also blockfish (I think is the name) has some decent fx plugs. Although it hasn't been updated for a while and I can't seem to get it to work with logic.8.

MARVIN VST | MARVIN PAVILION <== Tromine Z (Tr-909) and Tromine GT (Tr-808) are probably the best emulations I have ever heard....they blow away D16's emu's. Synthestra is a nasty mono-synth too.

www.easytoolz.de/products - essential-audio-systems <=== has a few really good freeware synths. And a very good freeware emulation of the Moog Taurus. Check out the easy-IQ-one too...I think it sounds better than most of the commercial EQ's I have used.

If you mess with chiptunes, Woolyss - Chipmusic > Plugins (VST, AU, RTAS) for 8-bit sound has a ton... some nice lo-fi filters too which can add grit to your music. Ifyou like SID emus get 38911 Bytes.....it's the best SID emu out there... even better than Chipsounds.

GSi - Soundware for musicians <==== has a nice freeware A200 Wurli model

[www.buchty.net] Section Ensoniq <=== SQ8L which is a dope ass freeware emulation of Ensoniq's SQ-80

MinimogueVA <=== MinimogueVA which is a freeware Minimoog emu

Than you have mainstays like Crystal which is a poor mans Alchemy

Synth1 which is pretty much a Nord Lead emu

Bootsies effects are really good Variety Of Sound

For sampling needs... checkout Shortcircuit vemberaudio.se - shortcircuit

and also check out the Elektrostudio suite... totally free and theres some bangers in there like a Micromoog, Solina String Machine, Mellotron and Moog Prodigy emulations.

Elektrostudio <== the site is down right now...don't know what happened.

Really good stuff...

Stillwell: not free per se but they have a fully functioning, all-features, non-expiring demo of all their plugs. Vibe-eq and major tom are particular favorites.

Other for-profit companies have some good feebees:

Brainworx Clean sweep and Izotope vinyl are classics. Clean sweep is a heck of a filter!

A bunch of cool suggestions so far - one warning though - use caution when using the free BlueCat gain plugins cuz they go to like +65db or something... almost blew out my ears and speakers when I wasn't paying attention.

With some of these freeware guys the only difference between them and commercial plugs is that they don't have the marketting savvy to form a business and sell them. Swear to god!

I'm really surprised by the ones i downloaded. Your suggestions. They really do sound great! Nice to see. I generally dont even look into plugs (fullstop) yet aloe free plugs.

Although i used to use a soft synth i still really like called 'Olga'.

come on now you're exaggerating!!! That was an opossum in that tree, and my wife is stunning but even she wouldnt wanna be a super model, and its probably more like 80 people, not 10,000 and definitely no earlier than 11:30pm quitting time.

AND.... I'd be unbelievably happy to work on ten hit records in a year, let alone a day. Though this is shaping up to be quite a good year. We'll see!

Gave me a chuckle haha...Good stuff. Look forward to hearing what you're up to in 2012. I have to say 2011 was no shabby year for you Ken. Some fantastic stuff.

I really enjoyed the work with kanye etc..but in terms of the mixing .. I loved the club banga by Jerimih - put it down. What a great feel good club joint. Loved the mix on that. It sounds really basic but the more i listen - its one of my references the more i hear going on.
