"American Idol" for DJ's from Simon Cowell & Will Smith

Simon Cowell’s SYCO Entertainment has partnered with Jada Pinkett-Smith and Will Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment in conjunction with Sony Pictures, to develop and eventually launch a live, new international TV show as a tool to find the world’s best DJs.

According to Deadline, this new venture will capture the recent rise of the DJ phenomena.

“We have been working on this show for over a year and we wanted to partner with the right people. As soon as I met Jada and Miguel from Overbrook, I knew they would be our ideal partners,” says Cowell. “DJ’s are the new rock stars, it feels like the right time to make this show.”

Jada Pinkett Smith added, “This show will comb the world to find a new breed of talent. I am happy to be creating it alongside Simon Cowell, the Sony team, and my partner Miguel Melendez, on behalf of the Overbrook family.

Sony Pictures Television will soon announce their broadcast partners in both the US and the UK.

The 'worlds best' DJ's have found ways of making themselves known without Simon Cowell getting any any money off it so far. Long may that continue.

The issue is, what is a DJ?

I mean, you cannot compare Preemo, Q-Bert and David Guetta, for example.

It will help some who are unknown grab untold riches. TV does that. Pauly D (jersey shore) was an unknown DJ. Now he gets top dollar internationally. The world's best known guys are not going to be on this show as contestants. Mariah Carey wasn't a contestant on American Idol.

Or a group like Hot Chip who are actually just a bunch of DJs/musicians...

My guess. International Dance DJ's who people dance to and fill up large clubs and small arenas to dance and party with. Like the late, great DJ AM. This is TV.

Sure, maybe something amazing will come out of it. What I meant was, really good DJ's have got on by being really good and putting in work. This is more about Simon Cowell applying his sterile pop star machine formula to a culture and artform that many of us hold dear. Not because he has any genuine long term interest in developing the culture or it's artists, but because he thinks he can rinse it for cash.

I would assume the same way. Some promenant djs will be judges. Maybe they will see who can rock the party the best and not just have people standing around looking at somebody scratch.

DMC is on network TV in USA and UK? before or after CSI?

I have no interest whatsoever in this kind of show. This will be a one season show in my opinion.

lol, x-factor sucked. Simon trying to leech onto the hip hop bandwagon is hilarious. I saw they had some rappers on the x-factor and he was judging them as if he knows anything about hip hop, lmao.

It makes me sick to my stomach. Master of the mix too!

Proper dj`s getting beat by noobs because it fits the program.
I mean, Vikter Duplaix beating DjRevolution?
It`s like one of those dreams where you run but never get anywhere.
A damn nightmare.

These are RADIO deejays, guys! No turntables or mixing needed, just a great voice and personality, LOL.

I think the show is a GREAT idea and will probably be a smash! Deejaying is the newest yuppie craze; even Sasha Grey (a porn and now mainstream actress) is doing it. Has nothing to do with musicality, musicianship or knowledge of music.

With all that said, it's more popular than ever, but just different enough to captivate mainstream audiences. Looking for the next Deadmau5!

it will be cheezy as hell, but probably draw top views.

I would love to see the talent of the DMC brought to the mainstream but what i have gathered is that this is not that form of DJ'ing..I'm not sure i understand this..so week in week out they are gonna play mash ups ?

It's a little umm..

I mean if they start using there own ish isnt it then a production competition..Im !

As stated if this was beat juggling DMC style comp then i would be into it!
