Thread Starter | Panning Properly
Can anyone explain to me the art of panning? I know each mix would be different, but for basics sakes how should i start out panning instruments. Everything i seem to try doesn't work right. Bass, kick and snares are centered, thats about all i know. Im using logic so the pan dial goes to 64. Say i have a violin melody, as the main instrument/melody. If i pan it to left or right, some of the stereo image feels empty, if you know what i mean. Even if i add another instrument and pan it to the opposite side, it still doesn't sound right. For this beat I'm working on i have one violin track and 1 choir, plus drums and bass. Can anyone try and explain what i should be doing in order to get this to sound full? Maybe describe it by how many notches i would pan each instrument to. Thanks for the help.

Best way to learn is to listen to references. Listen to songs in a similar style to the music your working on. Study them! http://www.mindbenderproductiongroup.com/
