Introducing MPC Fly... video now up.

Introducing MPC Fly...

After watching the video... The MPC Fly looks kinda dope. Nice and compact.

I could definitely see cats... who already own a iPad walking around with one of these.

I think this would be cool for putting down idea's real quick to work on later at the studio...

If Akai ever does another commercial like that again - with the corny "Wa Wa One Two Three" bull shit again I might just burn down their advertising department. Seriously though - three in a row of the same commercial?

Looks kinda dope - how does file sharing work? Do you know what format the beats would be in?

I got an iPad - so I might see if I can test one out soon. Has anyone heard any price rumors?

C/S... if the software is on point an I had a iPad.... I think I would get this before the "Studio".

Ehh - I understand your point, but I think they could have done much better. It was kinda bland in the first one - I thought it was slightly obnoxious by the second one - and predictable and boring by the third one.

I do see your point - I just feel that it could have been better executed - even if they kept the 1, 2, 3 thing.

Just gonna wait for some real information to get released. It looks usable at first but the specs are sketchy and important stuff is deliberately unclear.

Only 4 tracks... No mention of polyphony again, no clear indication of sample editing/chopping other than saying it works with the other software.

Am hoping it hasn't been deliberately gimped to try n make you buy the Ren etc...

Trading off the back of legacy products is fine but not making the most of the full touchscreen, meh... Just hoping any other editing screens don't look like an mpc 2000 copy with a tiny fake LCD screen

On the plus side someone will probably make an MPC shaped stand to fit it in, probably with speakers...

I'm with you on that... and all that fake head knodding . Anyway, I want to hear a beat made on this device before I make a judgement.

Yeah, at least with though's dudes the head bop would be genuine... cos what they bopping to in that video ain't a head bopper. I'm all for marketing but I see through the hype too, the real proof is in real life application ultimately.

I'm definitely keeping an eye on this, I love making music on the iPad and the biggest gripe I've had up until now is that I don't love hitting 'digital pads' on the touch screen and all controllers up until now have kinda taken the whole point of portability out of the equation.

However, this says it's designed exclusively for iPad 2... surely an iPad 3 is due out soon? There's been a lot of rumours, and going by Apple's previous release schedule for iPad and iPhone, we'll inevitably see a third-gen iPad this year.

So does that mean Akai know something we don't and the iPad 3 will be the same form factor as the iPad 2, or does that mean the MPC Fly is gonne be on the shelves for a couple months before the iPad 3 comes out and then just forgotten about and neglected by Akai?

One more gripe; why the hell do they need to take up 70% of the screen real-estate with pads, when their physical counterpart is sat right in front of you.

So the software is usable with iPad 1 I think - hardware is only for iPad 2

Big mistake not having separate versions IMO unless more gets revealed & the 2000 style GUI can be changed or is only a small part of the whole

Yeah I suppose it could just be the 'home screen' and that's a good point AbsoluteSpirit, I didn't think about the standalone app. Let's hope it is for the iPad 1 (despite how slow it may be, although I find mine is still kinda snappy), because I sure as hell am not buying an iPad 2 just for this when the 3rd gen is round the corner.

I really hope they do have some kind of insert/adapter system for when future iPad's are released. Unless of course the next iPad will be the same shape/size.

Dope. Innovative. Impressive. Something new for the iPad that is not just an app. I like it more than the Studio.

Files need to be compatible le with the Ren for me to cop though.

Doesn't look very playable to me. I'd rather connect my Nanopad to the iPad and use those pads instead.

Gosh...I was so hoping that the leaked photo was a fake.

I was impressed by the MPC Ren, intrigued by the Studio, but the Fly doesn't "fly" with me at all.

It's the type of ill conceived product that I originally expected NumAkalesis to mess up.

I'm just not a fan of Ipad hardware add-ons that defeat the purpose of having a thin, portable, multi-touch surface by adding some redundant dedicated hardware control.

Plus when you add the cost of the Ipad, it tends makes it more of a novelty than a competitive solution. Why buy an Ipad specific drum pads, keyboard, DJ control surface, or whatever when you can just get real thing for cheaper? My 3 year old netbook and padkontrol can do 10x more than the MPC Fly (4-tracks?!?!) using less space.

Speaking of redundant...why would they duplicate the front of an MPC 2000 on the screen if you have real pads in front of you? Talk about a waste of screen space. They could have just made a BIG version of the MPC LCD.

I guess if you already have an ipad and money to burn this may appeal to you, but unless MPC Fly is priced dirt cheap I don't see anyone rushing out to spend $800+ just to put together a crippled ipad MPC.

I kind of agree, though I am 50/50. I could see this as a great sketchpad but not doing real work on it, unless there is more going on in another menu. As it looks in the video, they just made it a "modern legacy" product, not really adding on to the strengths an ipad can offer.

I will reserve judgement until I see this in action and play around with it. I think for me, at this moment in time, it would be a fun toy when I am not in a place where I can set up my laptop, keyboard, and external.

As far as design of the actual machine part and it's integration with the ipad, it really is pretty dope though.

I think this might get canned before its released. The Verge have a video up on their site (can't find link, I'm on my phone) and the Akai rep talks about the hardware/software. They don't even allow a 'hands-on' by the looks of things and they haven't even finalised the name of the app.

It's not due out til Summer (by which time I would've thought the iPad 3 will be out) and its $299.... Two hundred and ninety nine bucks. Are they serious? 299 for an iPad hardcase and some pads... How in the hell can they justify that price. I was expecting like $100-$150 tops.

My interest for this just disappeared.

EDIT: Link posted above! You beat me to it ASICE!

Wow I'm impressed! The fact you can sample from so many different sources and when you sample from your own itunes library a turntable pops up! That shit is ill!! Akai's been in the kitchen for real

Totally agree, and 4 tracks is limiting seeing as the MPC 2000 has over 64 tracks but I do really like the iTunes sample feature, that's kind of cool.

Co-signing the facepalm here. Wonder how much Marley & 88Keys got paid for that performance? *hands over Oscar statue*
And on that note, wonder how much Chuck D got paid for the 1-2-3 sample?

Sticking to my Mpc60-2000&2000XL!!!

- that "Fly" piece of hardware would come apart with the amount of banging i do everyday. (Feel free to insert dirty joke)
