looking for these specific sounds(sub bass)

hi guys, newbie here.

just wondering if you guys could help me finding vsts to fit these sounds.

im currently using ableton live 8

Davis - Better When You Flow - YouTube

if you cant hear the sub bass in that song maybe this one will help.

Davis - #Nope - YouTube

production is done by matthewdavid, who is on brainfeeder. i know he uses ableton live, just not which plugins

first of all, just wondering what sub bass he is using. also possibly the drums. it seems to me he is also sidechaining the bass as well as the drums? how is that possible?

just trying to recreate this sort of sound, any help greatly appreciated!

I have not had a chance to listen to the examples but am familiar with a lot of that brainfeeder type sound.

Sub bass can come in a million forms. Generally the most simple and the sound you hear on a lot of that stuff is not what you would expect a sine/triangle wave form.

A lot of the sub sounds you hear on brainfeeder have squares in the bottom register with a second osc rocking a blend of triangle/sine wave forms.

you can get this real easy within lives SUPER SYNTH - prob one of the only soft synths i use Operator. It is honestly the shizzle. You can draw in harmonic content as well.

If I was you buddy save yourself some time and learn some basic synthesis - you wont regret it!

Just start with a real simple single osc - listen to the different wave forms..then start adjusting the octave - and envelope (ADSR) this will be step one of shaping the sound..work out what things do. Then think about the filter..what type? I good one to start with as we are all familiar is a low pass..Start turning it up and down..you will notice the sound changes a lot more..

In extreme you get a wobble as you move from open and close...

Once you have the hang of that you can use an envelope to adjust the ADSR on that filter..it's spacing amount of filter slope etc etc..

Then look into modulation and LFO..basically the wave form is a shape this is the same shape that the single can be modulated by..try it! :D

Very nice post KT1!!

To the OP. just open up an operator synth in ableton and look for the controlled labeled in kt1's post. Then play around, it's really straight forward if you start off simple. You'll learn much more than just looking for an easy VST fix!

Yes buddy I suggest operator in live. Take a sine wave and start there! Add a little distortion and blam killer sub bass.

Just had a listen - That sub bass is simply a sine wave with distortion slammed by a compressor and is side chained.
