Bitwig

This looks like everything Ableton was supposed to be 2 years ago....

If the piano roll isn't trash like Abletons...looks like I finally got my 64 bit DAW to switch over to from FL Studio....

Looks crazy intuitive.....

2 things jump out right off the bat from that video.

1 - stupid simple automation

and

2 - real time time stretch

good enough for me... plus the GUI looks very easy on the eyes.

It's a project created by the developers of Live who left Ableton. A lot of people think it's just Live 9. That remains to be seen....

I'm guessing it's a totally new DAW.

You sign up for it on their website.

It looks as if they took all the smartest basic features from FL Studio, Live, Cubase, Studio One and Pro Tools and threw it in a blender.
According to CDM a few original Ableton guys are behind it. Maybe this is a response to thinking Ableton is becoming too bloated and overly complex with every major update. I hope it isn't $800 for the full package

Live or Bitwig?

If Bitwig is indeed an offspring of the Live developers... I HIGHLY doubt it's anywhere near $800.

I overstated that price-sorry . Live! is only $640US plus but that still pretty rich IMO. If they can drop at around $300 I would be game to try it.

I'd hope there is a fully functional demo... @ $300 I would need some serious time to play with it.

Hopefully a $199 introductory price is in place

Yes.
Nothing.
Better workflow/implementation is probably the hope.

I mean if you really want to get serious about it... Do we really NEED 95% of the products being launched in the current times?

I mean, sure, there are folks who need to punch out 35 tracks a day....the average dude doesn't. You can make the argument that almost everything that has been the "next best thing" over the last 5 years has had diminishing returns in contrast to the ones released the 5 years before that.

This DAW might only resonate with a niche...who knows...this is right up my alley, though. Like Pete said, reportedly it is going to combine all of the best features from current DAW's.

From what I read...people seem to believe it also implemented a lot of the features from consumers "wish lists" from other DAW's as well..

If that holds true... that alone merits a watch, IMO.

Jahrome! Fine (dude at least owns his bias and spits facts). Just don't become the Noggin!

As a LONG time Live user (since "3") what is it about the piano roll that turned you off, Hobbs?

Is Bitwig going to put you on the payroll?

Competition is always better for the end user. I like what I see so far.

For one, I didn't like the GUI...it looked like I was working in an Excel spreadsheet.

Plus I liked the way FL handled quantization which I found really annoying in Live. The hot keys in FL won me over. Just the workflow in FL I found so much easier and streamlined.

Saw the pics of it. Looks like an iPad app. No telling what it's capable of tho.

On a side note... My new build has really forced me, kind of, to ditch FL Studio....I have been giving Reaper a good go and I'm really starting to dig it.

I really need 64 bit infrastructure now..so I might use it until Bitwig rolls out. And if Bitwig isn't up to snuff than I might be a Reaper convert....
