Thread Starter | KRK Rokit 5 PC hook up
What's up, I have some Rokit5s on the way and I'm going to go get the wires in the mean time. What wires do I need to hook them up to my computer? I looked into the RCA wires and my only question would be, if I have to get a set of rca wires for each speaker, how are they going to plug into the soundcard? doesn't it only have one whole for speaker input (the green circle input) ?? Cheers friends |

You need an audio interface and don't use the rca connectors, use the XLR. This will have long term benefits for your production. You can get a usb audio interface that will do what you need it to for maybe 100-125 bucks

Thank you for the response! How about a mixer, could the monitors run through that or would the sound quality still be lacking (if possible)

you dont even need all that. Just buy a cable that is a 1/8" TRS split into two 1/4" TS's. You can just run to best buy or something and grab one for like 7 bucks. The rest of the cables will come with the Rokits.

Awesome...good stuff guys. One last thing, I got the wires http://www.amazon.com/Hosa-CMP159-Fe...6363365&sr=1-1 Which wire goes into what monitor? Does the red go into the right or does it matter (I'd imagine it was especially when you pan stuff...) Thank you again, I love this site |

It's not that difficult. What kind of connector do you have on your interface? I'm guessing 1/8 inch stereo jack. We know the KRKs will take XLR or TRS. So you need to get from 1/8 to that if that's the case (I also recommend XLR). If you're getting a y-type split cable, make sure each length is long enough to run to each monitor.

You're right it isn't hard, I'm just worried about hooking them up wrong and blowing them (you have no idea how many yards i raked for these lol) But yeah I have the cables, I made a mistake though! My soundcard actually has a plug in for left and right trs inputs but I got the 1/8 to 1/4 trs splitter that goes into one PC output (in this case I have it plugged in the front where you can plug in headphones.) So I can understand how those would work. My question right now is does the red wire go into the left speaker, and the grey into the red or vice versa? Also, I can play MP3s and get sound from the web but when I play something in FL studio I get nothing o_O I checked out the audio settings and nothing stood out =/ |

I hear you, and appreciate you wanting to take care of your gear. I'm not the most knowledgeable, but I think getting the red/gray side backwards won't do anything wrong to the speakers... and not sure if that can be a phase issue. What I would do is hook them up, then use a pan control on your media player software to make sure pan left goes to the left speaker, etc. |

you probably need to change the audio preferences to use your interface instead of your internal soundcard.

Go to fl studio preferences, go to audio settings and choose your soundcard if that doesnt work try the asio drivers (which work best in my opinion) Also never heard of anyone blowing a krk out with turning it off wrong. Dont worry to much just keep tweaking your settings also a tip turn the low end down a bit as they are know to give to much.

just make sure you turn the speakers off on the back before you unplug them from your computer (assuming youre going straight into your PC's headphone jack)...if you dont youll get a naasty sound and could damage the cone. As far as that cable goes, I'm pretty sure the Orange/Red one says "ring" on it, and the Grey one says "Tip"...if i remember correctly Tip usually goes to Right and Ring goes to Left. Just try it out tho, youre not going to ruin the speakers by plugging them in opposite. |

Thank you guys so much I got them working with your help, you dunno how much I appreciate it! An audio interface will def be my next upgrade. These things are some lil thumpers and sound so clear...will the the audio interface really be a big difference? Haha can't wait to hear that cause I'm impressed as they are

Happy they're up and running. An interface will give you a spot to plug a mic in or a guitar/keyboard, give you lower latency, have (generally) more stable drivers than the windows ones or asio4all. In the meantime I suggest the asio4all driver for lower latency.

Thanks man.... but I could definitely use those options as my study grows for sure. Does it approve the audio quality as well? I'd love some recommendations too

Insert Cable. It would be a 1/8 on one side, whatever you want on the other (RCA or TS) most likely. You can buy them at a place called Guitar Center. You may even get lucky at Radio Shack.
