Also soundclick would be a big chance for sellin cuz all the stuff you hear on soundclick is plain wack....just a joke.
Nah there is soundclick producers who are awesome. They are just not in the charts most of the time.

If you mean wack by the top 25? yes, because either they are cheating...paying 250$ a week for ads....or very very lucky....

everyone else, usually those with talent, dont take it very serious...thus going un-noticed

but trust...they are there.

Myspace is dead. Right now Reverbnation and Twitter is where it's at!

selling beats for 400-1000 online you will have a tough time finding artists, most of the online "artists" either want free beats or to buy "leases".

Nope.

Its in the numbers.

Lets say 1 out of 100 people LIKE your beats.

But only 1 out of 10 (who like it) will actually LEASE one (lets say for 20$)

This means, on a regular basis, you would have to reach and be exposed to atleast 1,000 people to have a CHANCE to lease 1 beat.

Now when you start dealing with 100,000 people at a time...you get somewhere.

Lets say 100,000 different people a month.

Producers buy beats too...So do DJs...so do people who dont even record...who knows why, but they do.

So you gotta reach people.

Then when you find 10 people who LIKE your beats...or 100 people who Like your beats...shoot 100 people who have already BOUGHT your beats...

imagine the odds then.

ITs not a quick way to do it, this is where people fail....it can take 6 months just to find 100 people who actually care enough about you to bookmark your page.

So imagine.

How the hell do you get 20k plays a song in a day? WOW! I know its all about promotion for sure and those guys on top have strong name recognition so thats hard to compete with. I think after you hang on the charts top 50 for a while, ur brand starts catapaulting you foreward. And hopefully ur beats are gettin better too.

Jus wanta throw this out there. I get 3-4k total song plays a day, and I jus got picked up to produce new beats/sound for a major worldwide artist. Maybe im jus supa Lucky or my beats jus resignated wit 'em. This normal?
Nice man! Thats awesome!

I do think you meant "my beats resonated wit 'em". Cmon now, dun make it look like HH producers cant spell, LOL.

"everyone else, usually those with talent, dont take it very serious...thus going un-noticed"

This is very true about Soundclick. However, Ive been "noticed" at Soundclick and I think MG has as well, so even though its a deep-ass pool over there, theres still hope.

I became a "reviewer" over at Soundclick and reviewed all the heaps of bad music people would ask us reviewers to critique. Its good help to those who need it and an eye-opening experience if you let it be. It is actually a way to make your presence at Soundclick apparent. You do have to walk the walk and back up your "reviewer-ship" with your own quality productions to get respect from people there, but if what you produce is quality......its not a problem. People WILL in fact listen to you.

Before anyone says so, and to give respects to those who forward in such a populated genre, I know the HipHop charts are, oh about 1000 times more active than reggae charts over Soundclick, so youre chances of being seen or noticed are smaller, but its still possible.

So much of "internet presence" resides in the area of "image". Whats funny, is its more your logo, pages, even how well you type that can instill more respect than an actual picture of yourself. Big up your image with logos, etc. It goes a long way. MG's got a mighty fine ad, IMO. Its things like that that can make a difference. Pretty easy to say & agree to, but getting yourself "branded" is easier said than done.

Got a reverse question. If i buy a beat license from you say for round 20-100usd or whatever the asking price is, can I: Remix it, chop it up and mangle it/alter it. even re-play/recompose your instrumental hook. If Then this songs goes really big and makes lots people love it, does the original Beat Maker still get a cut?

Just thought cos it would be a cool to start-off using someone elses beat and go from there, improve on it and put my own twist on it just for fun.

Would beatmakers be cool with that - you think?

I just sold a beat through PMP and got a nice amount, for me as an upcoming producer. It is possible to sell a beat if you're good enought and bring your A-game.

There are a lot of crap in the business, so the market of QUALITY beats isn't saturated at all. IMO, it is very hard to find really good beats, even if you don't care about the price.

I guess it depends on the level of recomposing/replaying. there are laws about this (what sampling is, what interpolation is, etc.)

then they are not my potential customers. just like I would not be Akai's potential customer if I'd step in their store and say "I want an MPC for free".

Yeah alot of people. There's a "consumer" market.

But believe me, there's more people than not, who just want it or expect it for free.

I'd have no moral problem with that, if this implied, you getting a song back in a decent amount of time to do something with it.

Which is usually never...even once sold.

I've had someone say to me "I didnt buy the beat to impress you, you're not entitled to the song"

wow

So i reminded them that I didn't sell it to them to NOT get a song, nor have i received their written agreement or split sheet within the 30 days we agreed on so I'll find a more impressive artist.

That went well

If you're serious about making it in the industry and think your beats are commercial enough then go for PMP. The sign-up fee pays itself off if you're good enough.

Cool. $700,000 is a lot of money. How many producers in that pool of 700k?

bands are overflooded also and im sure every teeny girl wants to be britney still. problem is what most people dont understand in music things have to change. u cant have 1 type or style of music going for 100 years. the best are the ones that move with the times, u either move with the times or u will be moved out. look at someone like madonna, u think it would have worked if she still stuck with what she did when she started? hell no... so the underground rap days are over, it has its time and its gone. your main problem is this, if u aint gettin played on mtv or radio u aint gonna make it, unless u already have a strong act.
biggest problem right now in the rap/hiphop selling beats? i would say people wanting to get signed but they just adding to the junk, its more important to be signed than actauly producing something good.
