Headphones

What are some of you guys using for phones? I need a set for writing, tracking, mixing, pretty much a good all around set. Been looking at the Ultrasone Prolines, are they worth the price or what? Just looking for some headphone opinions, thanks.

Tracking, songwriting - sure... but you don't want to be mixing or mastering with headphones.

For tracking here I use Fostex T20s, AT m40fs, and a whack of Harvey Gerst's MoreMe cans....

i use fostex t20's unless someone wants something that fits a little tighter to their big crazy head, then i usually just hand them a pair of technics rpdj1200's or sony 7506's

no, no...i just like to check mixes on headphones, sometimes do automation rides with the phones. That article is great and all, but it works well for me.

I do like the 7506's, they're probably my favorite headphones personally. I'm just wondering if I'm missing out on something with these crazy expensive headphones like Ultrasone.

I switched to Ultrasone HFI-700 from being a longtime 7506 user. I will never look back. I would agree not to mix with headphones period.

i agree with checking mixes on headphones... as well as ipod earbuds. i don't make changes while listening on headphones, but i take notes if i hear issues. shit, i live in ny and more music is heard through earbuds than anything else... so it's goor to ref. it... also helps me catch little f ups with reverb tails, etc...

Have you tried the Beyerdynamic DT770? I've borrowed these once and I liked them.
I use the Sennheiser HD25 for tracking and DJ'ing as it has great isolation.
For listening pleasure and 'critical' listening I have a sennheisser HD650.

Once I had a tracking sessions for a R'n'B song where the lead had doubled 4 part harmonies on top of doubled 4 part choirs (oohs and aahs).
After the 3rd doubled harmony she had problems defining each part and had trouble hitting the right note. So after trying some other things I switched the HD25 for the HD650 and she had no problems hitting the right notes anymore.
Though I still usually don't use the HD650 for tracking cause I don't want to break it and because of the bleed.

I rock the BeyerDynamic DT770's. I love them, very comfy too. The bass response is dope also. Just don't try to mix on em...

USing the HD280pro's. they seems to have a more natural sound vs the 7506's

I don't fine the 7506's that pitch accurate when recording R&B artists. and most of the artists had very accurate voices/ears. and don't waste your money on the 7509s'.
