Best Ipad app to control Pro Tools

I have an Ipad 2 and I know all the contenders, just looking for something that just WORKS flawlessly. Needs to work with Win 7 and OSX.

I use ableton live, maschine and mainly Pro Tools. I guess it'd be cool if it triggered clips, but I really want to use it as a mixing surface when I'm on the other side of the room doing something.

You have two options. You can use lemur because it can it can control just about any daw via midi. There is not any templates for pro tools, but there will be sometime in the immediate future. You say you use ableton, so lemur or griid will be great to use. The difference between the two is griid is a dedicated ableton controller, which you can launch clips, control faders, and use the piano roll as a step sequencer or draw in midi notes. Lemur can do all of that, but has no template for piano roll. Hope that is helpful.

Never used it, but seen it in action, and V Control looks pretty official.

I mostly need to control faders. I could have sworn there were a few other options. Thanks for the info about lemur. Seems a bit on the pricey side for an ipad app (49 bucks), I do know the hardware version was pretty good.

I've been using v-control and it's great. The only two drawbacks compared to a procontrol that I've run into are the jog/shuttle isn't as usefull (on PC, you can use the modifiers to zoom and scroll), and plugin editing is clunky.

V-control has this coming though-

I downloaded the free version and I need to reinstall pro tools to get it to work right (I already needed to, something shitty about going from 9 to 10 instead of a fresh 10), but I can't because I'm in the middle of projects and can't be bothered to potentially **** stuff up so I won't be trying it til next week.

App feels good though, probably what I'm looking for.

I just bought V Control Pro to use with Pro Tools 9. This thing really works and is super easy. Literally less than 10 minutes after downloading the app I was using it to control playback and move faders. I don't notice any lag over wifi. It's awesome.

I bought it so I can record my own vocals in a separate room from my computer. This will eliminate the need to have an assistant press record or the even less glamorous running to the booth after pressing record and using a long lead in.

I'm sure some will think $50 is too much, but for my needs it seems like a bargain. I've wanted something like this for the last 10 years. I'm actually surprised its so cheap considering the small market and time it must have taken to develop.

That's the price probably because no one will pay a penny more. I had an issue setting it up where it was giving me no options other than "none" in my mcu or midi controller tab, I was following the instructions exactly and I think my PT might be wonky but I don't want to reinstall in the middle of a project so I'm waiting I guess.

Thanks for the review though, makes me more confident.

+1 for V-Control. Neyrinck is known for making software for the serious audio professional. It works with logic and Cubase/Nuendo also.

V-Control Pro 1.5 is now available at the App Store. It has the V-Window feature that we were previewing in that video from AES.
