Low Budget Mic Preamp Compressor

What preamp/comp would you recommend to track Rap vocals?

Very Low budget around 350 USD,

I was looking at Focusrite PLATINUM TRAKMASTER PRO and JoeMeek THREE Q, any recommendations or Alternatives.
The Mics in use are RodeNT2, Studio Projets C1 and SE Electronics SE2200A

TONY ANY recommendations? I know youre the man that Knows "! PEACE G!

could you stretch for either the rnp or the gt brick? i think those two, (esp the brick) sound pretty nice on rap vocals. or if you want a comp too, then a studio projects vtb1 + fmp rnc or a maudio dmp3 + rnc sounds cool

dude

buy with your ears not what people tell you....once you experience a preamp that you truly love for a particular reason then you no longer want it....you need it...hope that helps

I've used all of those. At that price level, you aren't going to hear a huge difference between those pieces. The RNC comp is better, but you aren't really supposed to be able to hear compression anyway. It really depends on how confident you are with your recording skills. You won't hear a huge difference until your recording skills are top notch. I spent around $1000, (not that expensive) on my vocal chain back when I was just starting out. My rap vocals still didn't knock me out, probably because I was recording in a bedroom. After years of going through cheap condensers and EXPERIMENTING, I finally learned how to get a good sound...and that ended up being through a SM57->VTB-1->dbx 163x (roughly $300 for the whole chain). When I finally get my hands on some expensive stuff, my recordings will be that much better.

Don't get so caught up on the gear. Set a price and go with it. Cop that $2000 chain when you're ready. There's really no in-between.

Thanks for the Advice Peeps

Until 3 days ago i was runnin my Vocals through the mic pres on my Soundcraft ghost, sounded dull n fixin it up afterwards just messed it up even more. Went for the Trackmaster pro, vocals are more transparent and cut through the beat. add some EQ to sweeten it up and its all Gravy
with some ITB processing it comes up to a standard thats acceptable for what it is. Very happy with the results. And yes next thing I will go for is a Lunchbox with 500 series PRE, EQ, COmp, then jump on the stuff for 2 Gs. Can't wait. Very pleased with the Trackmaster Pro compared to Preamps on my Desk.
Thanks Yall
PEACE

You`re doing it wrong (grin)
Pres on every ghuost I have ever used were just fine and certainly a match for the Trackmaster - and I speak as an Octopre owner. Same pres basically if not a little better.

maybe what you are hearing is the REST of the trackmaster`s effect on your sounds?
For what they cost and what the original posters budget is, I just dont see the Trackmaster being a good option.

I actually prefer my Focusrite Green Voicebox 2 over my 737 and MEC1a for Rap tbh.
