Which DBX 120 ?

Hey everybody,

I want to purchase a DBX 120 to run my basses thru it, but the problem is that I can't find any of the old models for sale over here. I was wondering if some of you had compared the newer 120A's to the older models ? I know the 160A is not as good as the 160x & xt so I was a bit reluctant about buying the 120A, thought it might be the same.

Also is there a big difference between 120, 120X, 120X DS, etc.. ? which one is supposed to sound the better ?

thanks

I like the DS version bicause you get 4 frequencies to tweak instead of 2.
But you could use the latest version with out fearing any downsides.

But my question would be: Are you going to put samples/synth bass or a real bass guitar through it?
If you use it for samples you should just layer a sine wave under the original sample and tune it to taste. This gives you way more control over the sound than the dbx120 or any other subsyhnt could give you.
If you use real instruments or if you aren't allowed to touche the sampler (producer points gun at you...) than the new dbx120a would do the job, so will the peavy or the waves r-bass.

thanks,

actually it depends, sometimes i'll use it with samples, sometimes with a real bass, sometimes with loops I guess. I've tried RenBass, but it wasnt exactly what I was looking for, seems like it just added a lot of lows to the source, not a lower octave like the dbx

I still have my DBX 120 around here, but I use Renn Bass instead most of the time.

Maybe this was from me?

These days i tend to use the Furman more for the kick and bass sub comp.

The 120DS mainly on floor toms or just straight to the Furman.

Ren Bass is nice. I use the hell out of that for focusing the bass guitar. I have a friend who has 2 DBX 160s. Next time Im over there ill see if they are As or not. I know this guy's ears are topnotch so whatever he uses is usually going to be kickass.

So to get back on the dbx120, what is the difference between the dbx120A and the 120xp?? Are there any difference in sonic quality??

How does the dbx120 hold up against the Compounder or the Aphex Big Bothom??
