Works well. It's pretty sweet being able to sample with the iPhone's mic anywhere. It's not amazing audio, but if the mood strikes ya, it works.

4 bucks well spent. I love this app it's so much fun. I made a beat with my own beat box sounds and sang hooks and laid a verse. So easy and intuitive.

I have NanoStudio also. It's great, but if you're a Maschine head in the first place, it's much simpler to use. NanoStudio is great, don't get me wrong, but if you're just looking to make simple beats on the fly iMaschine is awesome. It's a perfectly intuitive iPhone/Pod/Pad version of Maschine.

I wonder if it'll support Core Midi so you can use it with any midi device with a dock adapter for midi like iRig Midi.

Just out of curiosity, are people using these apps for legit work, scratch pad, a starting point, or bit of everything? I know people have made full projects on Iphones, I am just talking about the average person. I have an extremely dumb phone but I have never been happy with the size of my portable setups of the past, except for working at a GF's house where I am pretty stationary.

You can cook up some ideas. But doing a full project ,unless it's a really simple type track, is ridiculous.
The device is just to small.
I've used inuata's beatmaker for a while, just here and there, and its pretty good. But if you get a melody going in your head I think the best, quickest thing to do is to hum and beat box into the recorder on your phone or one of those 4track apps.

That's what I figured, I was just curious how far you can go. I have just seen people get really excited about these apps, especially on other forums and I always figure it's just sort of something to play with more than do work on (which is fine). I don't have a smart phone, i don't even have a regular phone, I have a dumb phone at best lol.

What I liked is that I made a beat idea and then could easily dump the sounds into FLstudio and work with them there. So that was cool.

Besides that nanostudio is the best one IMO, but I love simplicity and love writing music on these little apps.

I'd use imachine to write hooks and 8 bar beats with..if you need something like that this thing is perfect for getting ideas down fast.

Can't figure out how to arrange on it, and frankly I doubt I will mess that aspect.

If you really wanna have something nice to work with as far as apps and mobile go, get an iPad.

With the iPad, you really can do full projects and be comfortable doing it. The screen size allows easy control over your apps unlike something smaller like iPhone.

I have beatmaker 2 on iPad. You can record in and import samples thru itunes and I can create anywhere.

Audio copy allows you to transfer audio between apps (that allow it). Make a beat in one app, copy it to a recording app and record a song.

I just got imaschine today and ran it for about 30 min before work. Didn't see a way to import or audio copy, only record in audio. You can export to Maschine and Soundcloud tho. Neither useful if you wanna stay internal. If their ios development is like their Maschine's is, there should be a lot of good updates in the future.

I downloaded it on both my iphone and ipad. Here are my thoughts:
1. The stock sounds are pretty good. By that I am referring to the drum kits. The multi-samples are lacking in quality.
2. I'm annoyed that when i bought the expansion sounds on the iphone, that the iPad version didnt pick them up. It wants me to purchase them again.
3. It doesnt support audio copy/paste (HUGE Let-down).
4. It doesnt give any auto-chop/sample mangling options like Nanostudio or Beatmaker 2 give.
5. It is seriously lacking in the FX department (ex: No compressor). Again, Nanostudio and Beatmaker 2 are far better here.

I havent even gotten to the sequencer/arranger stuff...iMaschine is an ok concept but needs a LOT of work. Beatmaker 2 and Nanostudio are way ahead in terms of what it can do, especially if you use them with Garageband since they support audio copy/paste (Ill make a beat in Beatmaker and then track it out into Garageband and add live bass/guitar or additional sounds/loops). I would either or both of those apps and hold off for the next update from NI on iMaschine.

I made a bunch of iMaschine beats while on a recent trip to Vancouver. I uploaded them all to Soundcloud and started a group there for iMaschine beats. Check 'em out. Some of them turned out surprisingly nice. And the integration with Maschine is really pretty cool. My favorite iPhone music app.
