Different between soft synth and algorithims

I made a thread some what recently abuot hip hop producers using huge algorithims and I got alot of responses but alot of the people seem to be mentioning soft synths like Jim Jones Crunk Music and T.I's new song off his album KING and his movie ATL what you know, now to me those seem more like soft syntisizers rather then algorithrims I mean to me the difference between soft synth and algorithims we're the fact that a soft synth was something that sustained it sounds were as a algorithims hade a evolving factor to it, never knowing what would be thrown in your face until it was held down for a good 6 seconds.

The only algorithim that I have heard from mainstream hip hop was off LL cool J's - control myself, that sounds like an evolving soundscape although not nearly as advanced as some of the stuff out there if it hade to be categorized it would probably fall in the algorithim definition.
