Damn, its always tricky to tell what type of hip hop a female will enjoy. Ive met girls who listen to Wu and all that and others who can only get into the more mellow stuff.

But maybe some older Common, not named Electric Circus. Possibly something from The Roots.

Cant go wrong with some classics....

Gangstarr - Moment of Truth
Nas - Illmatic

Or maybe a more underground type of hip hop like

Madvillain - Madvilliany
Edan - Beauty and the beat

A few tips from the UK:

'Sway' is the biggest thing in the UK for Hip Hop at the moment.

'Floetic' by 'Floetry' is a brilliant song, but the rest of their first album is so-so. (Floetry are the girls that did the background vocals to 'Cry Me a River' by Justin Trousersnake.)

For a party 'GLC' - 'Goldie Lookin Chain' is a must have, with classics lyrics like, 'oi mate, yer misses is a nutter.' Not to be taken too seriously tho.

she likes whats in the top 20 for a reason and its more than likely kuz most of it is club oriented. she may like the energy and she may like to dance. she may also just like catchy music. who is ur favorite artist that can put out a club track and still be acceptable or u can stop tryin to change ur friend

I ended up ripping various songs from various artists on itunes - and I will give her the present of the potential of discovery. That and some kickass sake.

Funkynuts had the list earlier; The Roots, Talib Kweli, Common. All well produced, great flows but with a commercial slant. Hell, even my missus will listen to 'em and she don't like hip hop

i understand that but a lot of people arent open minded enough to accept what it is especially the stuff being recommended here. Maybe introduce her to some Old Mos Def or maybe Like Water For Chocolate. Something with a commerical flare but didnt exactly appeal to the top 20 audience. People like Top 20 for a reason gotta give em something similar to keep em interested
