Thread Starter | SP 1200 vs Battery 3 emulation comparison part I
first off... thanks to dor and tvent for the sp 1200 files!
it took a while but here's the first round.
it's just a drum loop pitched down on both the sp 1200 and battery 3 with sp emulation on.
no further processing just sampled and pitched.
curious to see the poll results.
thanks. |

I beleive the 2 is the 1200 aswell.
Jus wondering was battery tracked with the same chain as the 1200 or is it an export itb?
Because both files sound pretty close... it's just that #2 have more life to it, just like most tracked out audio, #1 sound like an export, a bit flat.

I can't tell the difference. :-(
Maybe my ears aren't as good.
I'm going to have to choose the 3rd and 4th option.

I'd love to hear this with something besides a drum loop, like a stab or a full soul loop

What kind of speakers are those that can't tell the difference listening on? Personally, I could hear the difference on laptop speakers, but with headphones on it was way obvious.

Maybe I should take a run on my headphones..

Hard to tell to me too but #1 has little more highs in it to me so I thought that was battery and #2was the sp. But they sound VERY close IMO

I haven't used either so I obviously am not qualified to guess. I don't know how to describe it but the 2nd has a bit more "character" to it, sounds a bit "grainy" but in a good way (that's not really the right word). It seems slightly punchier.
At the end of the day, they are close enough for me not to care and use what I prefer.

I was going to say no.1 is the SP because of the presence of a tiny amount of extra bass. But, I change my mind. I think they're similar enough to have come from the same device. Further, everything I know about the SP sound (though I've never owned one) tells me that the distortion effect should be more extreme / obvious than that. Of course I could be wrong but it is my gut feeling that both of these clips came from Battery.

The second to the last time the loop plays (in #2), the way the loop breaks up is pretty distinctive... At least from my experience
It also sounds like when Dor sampled the loop into his SP, he didn't hit or Clip the AD that hard...
How was the loop sampled into Battery?
If the Emulation of the SP in Battery is that unnoticeable pitching a non percussive sound would be really telling about how close the Emulation actually is...
If the two were that close I don't think companies like Goldbaby would offer those Kits...
My 2 cents... I maybe wrong, so I digress... Quote:

Bottom line, I could and would use either.
If however, number 2 turns out to be Battery, my hats off to NI as the sample provided was much smoother and a touch more pleasant to the ear all round.
Listening on ATH-M50's
Beacause I am the impressionable type, I selected 2 as the sp as its my understanding that these things are magical.

It's going to get real uncomfortable for you if battery is #2.

I'm going with 2.
I've not heard an original sp1200 but my thinking is that number 2 seems to get grittier quicker
