I like to work with solo rappers, rappers that are also producers are impossible, because they don't want to be produced.

I don't mind working with other producers as long as I'm respected in my views.

Man I can go on for days and days about this topic... but to make a long story short... I am not an Engineer... but I have engineered sessions... I just do the necessary preparations before the record button is pressed... from the Artist previous balance (if there is one)... to making sure the balance is paid before the end of our sessions... and defining everyones role... and respecting their roles...

Rappers and Producers are just people (with a somewhat common goal)... and they are entitled to change their minds and have opinions... if there is something I cant do... I know someone who can do it... this whole business is about respect and relationships... and making great rocords...

Honestly the most difficult person to work with in a session... is an unannounced GIRLFRIEND or the Random Piece of Ass that starts adding input or starts getting restless...

i am in a rap group currently and am the producer. i for one welcome the chance to work with other producers and value all opinions. when i do production duties i like to not have the rest of the group there (unless we're choosing beats). members who are less technical or not technical at all tend to get bored and eventually on my F***kin nerves! we have our group down to a pretty good system where everyone knows and more importantly PLAYS their role and tend to stay on the same page

I feel its the producers cuz some people have crazy huge egos and my room is small. I really love workin with other producers cuz you can vibe off each other and that makes for a better track period.

LOL, I know this is definately the case, my corny little motto is: "if you ain't on the mic, take a hike!" I have had to kick countless people out of the studio because of this.

But sometimes I think that producers are harder because when they hear their music in the studio and it doesn't sound like it did in the headphones at home, they get pissy. Rappers do the same thing when they get mad because it takes more than 1 take.

Peace out,

This wins - hands down. Where do they FIND these people?! Worse yet, try the over-the-top gay lover. It should be on film how badly all of these "have NOTHING to do with the recording" folks behave.

Id have to say a group of producers because Im in a rap group and we are open for anything. Like we may bump heads but not before we get in a studio because we know we have to go in and handle business thats why for us to be have just started the group in Sept. we have 4 mixtapes ready for the streets now and are working on a DVD. So I'd say producers because you have so many creative forces in one room like you cant get Jazze Pha and Mannie Fresh in the same room and expect to have magic on first sight

i would say a lttle of both.i feel like ILLYNOISE if it doesn't sound like it did back at the crib they seem fully astounded. somewhat like it's your fault.but they expect you to save the day and work miracles on their stuff.and with a group of people you just don't have enough eyeballs to watch everyone.and on that note you should'nt have to watch anybody.but we all know that you have some hard heads that show up with the sole intent on just confiscating some of your things.so my saying is if this person is not contrbuting anything with the session ,than man shit don't bring them!!!!!!!!!

i think it really depends on who it is. i've never worked on one song with a "group" of producers, so i can't really say how that was... but as far as, say, this MeLa project, where I'm working on a project consisting of other producers including myself, the only issue is coirdination, etc...
as far as groups of rappers, i think it goes either way. some people are WAY more productive in groups, some are just a pain in the ass. tere's one groups who i've worked with twice and have known for a while, and although there are two rappers, they roll about 6-8 deep no matter what. just because that's the way they roll... so to take that away, would tamper with the energy that comes through the record

I have to second (third) this.... Girlfriends are the worse...especially if they require alot of attention... Other offenders are the "drunk guy" or the guy whose Nextel just can't stop chirping.... I get paid by the hour so I don't really care how long it takes to get a song done....but it is very frustrating trying to communicate with the artist in the booth when you can't hear them....

LOL...oh, while were at it.....Let's add the over-the-shoulder engineer/producer...meaning, the guy with Pro-Tools at home that's constantly telling you to add some reverb right there....compress that, blah blah blah... Some people can be helpful...but I firmly believe that there are times to give your input and there are other times to let the engineer do his job.... BUT, I guess I have been getting a little off topic since the original post was about groups of rappers and/or groups of producers....

i'll happily be the asshole to tell THAT guy that if they wanted HIM to produce the record, he's be sitting in my chair and cashing my check.
