record needle effect

How is that done? You hear Eminem and Dre use it occasionally.

Please be more specific. What type of needle effect are you talking about?

I really hope you're not talking about how to get record crackles...

Yes, I mean to actually simulate the effect of a record player.

Sorry for my ignorance, the only thing I could think of was to actually put the sound in the background..just to add an effect

Just record a track of record noise and lay it in the background. There are a couple of plugins out there that add record noise too.

I know iztope has a free plugin called "vinyl" which can be fun. Also i know most of the standard workstation keybaords/mods have some sort if "pop and crackle" preset sound, most often located within a drumkit.

At first i thought you were talking about the record scrape/scrath sound e

Thanks guys, I know it may have seemed dumb but I really wasn't exactly sure how you all approached it.

I used that free izotope plugin before. It's pretty cool if you don't have access to a turntable. But it can't compete with real record crackle. The dirtier the record, the better. I like to throw really dirty records on the platter and sometimes I'll even run that through an amp plugin to get it to sound even grittier. Just don't overdo it.
