Yeah, Tranzport is the way to go for around $200 bucks.

or...you can cop a Behringer rotary controller for around $100 and just get a long midi cord.

The Tranzport is a better, more compact solution being that it's smaller and wireless, but you'll probably get more use out of the Behringer. You can also use it to add real knobs to your softsynths and mixing.

I thought about the wireless route but then I realized that midi cables are dirt cheap and I don't need to trigger my DAW from my living room or kitchen.

I bought a 20ft midi cable for around 10 bucks at a music store.

Get a used midi controller and assign some keys to control the transport functions. Many DAWs allow you to assign these to midi notes. You could probably find an M-Audio Radium or maybe even something smaller for under $100 off craigslist or something like it.

all true... but the person who says wireless keyboard has a point. I've been doing this around the studio with PT. Great if you are playing and doing takes. Just need to learn your shortcuts. Not neccesarily as good as Transportz... but pretty cool

imho, of course

Here's an option, but you'll need a line of sight to the receiver. The price is right though.....

We probably have this issue however cause we want to get out of the room with the computer fans. This looks to be a handy device tho.
