hip hop "band" so i guess you got a live kit going----that means you were probably blowing up the pre on the way in-----there's no way to fix THAT particualar kik, but you can always replace the sound with a different kik if your in protools, or if your on tape, i think there's a way to put the distorted kik thru a gate, to use it to somehow trigger a midi sample---i forget how its done, i'm sure someone around here knows...

You gate the kik to get a short sharp sound(gating out all the other noise than the kik). Then send that signal out to a sampler that allows you to trigger other samples with an input carrier signal. I could be wrong but I think only a few samplers let you do this and I can't remember which ones...mabey tony belmont will know. Then send that signal to an open fader and there is your undistorted kik!!! Even easier would be to use soundreplacer in protools...If you have it. Hope this helps |

duplicate the drum track: on the first)---EQ out the mids or highs (whatever sounds are more "obviously"affected by distortion) second)--------do a highpass of whatever u rolled eqed out on the first and use a gate just to slide the attack in compress together to taste this is your only real choice unless u want to replace sounds, and it might sound very good and warm!

instead of the woefully inaccurate SR use aptrigga or drumagog

hmmm...i dont know 'bout that sirocco...so you're basically just putting a slow attack on the distorted frequencies??? i mean if its a kik drum, i'd imagine its the lower frequencies that were too hot--its just the nature of the instrument... if you find the time, i'd like to see this in action--post up a distorted kik, and then the results of this method... i'd be very surprised to see this work, but hey more power to you if you can!

You hit the input of the pre to hard most likely. Time for sound replacer. Sample one of your own kiks that didn't distort if you have any at all.

alright guys i think the sound replacer has given me the best result, i tried almost every thing else the nearest to the replacer was using the skip to transient option in pro tools and pasting a differ kik sample which was to short and did not sit in the mix so i side chained my ocilator on the neve vr to my old kik (got a bit of clipping) and recording a 100hz tone and a 40hz tone to try and lengthen the samlpe combined the three and got a murder kik (called it oops) but it did not work with my mix so saved a loop of my new invented kik(oops) for use later and used the sound replacer. Ohhh shit i could try and reverse my loop (oops) and see how that sounds. thanx guy. |

I vote for aptrigga, but once you get the sounds down PRINT them or you'll be like I was after changing hard drives and having to find sounds and relink I still wonder why people use SR given the fact that aptrigga exists |
