Thread Starter | Akai or not Akai? Please...
Sup guys. Here my lil'dilemma: never used an Akai, but I'm thinking of getting one...I should maybe find a used S 2000 or CD 3000XL, btw I'd get something cheap (...hope so). The main reason for that is "coloring and bumping" my drums or other samples. Since I'm a newbie, is it that hard laying down drums with it (a couple of 4bar drum patterns or so, that I'd record into Pro Tools, for example...)? I mean sequencing with it is it so difficult? And does it have a "nice sound-color" for that purpose?! I mean, in that price range (more or less) would be better an SP 303?! Then, usually I proceed like that: samples from turntables - through a Yamaha MG8/2Fx - then Pro Tools; sampling with an Akai or another drum-machine, would you suggest me to let the Akai in, into Yamaha preamp too or directly into the MBox?! Thanks. Hed

I think the s950 is know for coloring the sound rather than the 2/3K series.

I say go to your nearest GC and play with one a few times. see if you like the way your program tracks. peep www.mpc-forums.com |

<<I say go to your nearest GC and play with one a few times>> He was asking about vintage Akai samplers which he is not likely to find at GC. S2000's are dirt cheap on eBay-- less than $100. Just get one and if you don't like it just list again on eBay. It's easy to sequence in PT. If you want something grittier for color, go for the s900 or 950. |

If you are more of a computer guy at the moment, then I think you might find it hard to work with a older piece of gear. When I tried to work on the mpc I just couldn't do because I missed all the freedom that i had from using protools so I ended up selling the mpc and buying logic. I have been pretty happy since. Obvoiusly the whole coloration issue is not solved but i think if you are clever you could recreate that sound or invent your own. I happen to like my shit nice and clear, but thats just me.

Thank you so much! It was helpful. Well I have a strange hook with my homie and I should get an Akai, "in a cheap way", so I think I'll try...but what about the SP 303? Does anybody use it?! And would you bypass the Akai output trough a yamaha MG8/2Fx (then MBox) or directly into the MBox?! Thanks again! Hed |
