For those of you with "Neveish" type pres what kind of microphones do you use?

I'm currently using an at4050 and it just seems way too flat for me... I need some other options. Oh and if at all possible could we keep the price $1000 or less, new or used don't matter to me...

Thanx in advance thumbsup

soundelux u195....1200.00 or so new 950.00 used. best mic for the price out there in my opinion. only downside is it can be a little "ss-ey" with sibilent rappers. (which you can correct with de-essing or a pencil in front of the mic as a diffusor)

i use it with a great river mp2nv and api 312....big time vocals son. its really my only good mic and i use it for everything.

Its very interesting that you mention this because I have been looking at getting one of these mics for a while now. I'm also very interested in the whole pencil thing how exactly to you execute this technique?

Thanks

LDC's that my Phoenix DRS-2 likes...

AT4060 (can be found new for as little as $745... you just gotta dig, try musiciansadvocate.com , ask them how low they can go.)
MXL V69 ($225 used/ $300 new)
ADK Vienna ($225 used/ $300 new)

Tape a pencil, or straw vertically over the middle of the mic at the center of the diaphram. Sibilance is generated at the center of the mouth where the front teeth meet as the tounge pushes forward. This diffuses the air as it travels toward the diaphram, effectively lowering the volume of these high frequency air bursts. It's an old school trick that really works, try it.
