FX in a hip hop mix

Looking for some tips and tricks regarding effects. First Reverb what type of reverb (if any) do you use on your drums? Plates on the snares? Halls on the hi hats? etc.. Also your favorite delay settings and tricks to get that vocal to sit. Also very interested in how people approach vocals on the chorus. Are you using harmonizer type of effects? Chorus? Exciters? thanks!!

i dont f with the hi hat at all (except for level and pan).. however i chopped it is how i use it (they always seem to work themselves out). as far as reverb on snares, it depends on the snare and whatelse is going on behind it. shit is son situational, i don't think stuff like that stays the same from record to record. i can say that i use the same effects for the most part, but how u use them is really specific to the song... in my experience.

I hardly use reverb at all. To me hip hop should be in your face and reverbs tend to make things sound farther away. If I do use any reverb, I may put a small room on something, but it's really REALLY low in the mix.

Depending on the song, a very tight (1.0 sec), and slight (3 to 5% wet) small room verb on the high hat can add a LOT of energy to a mix. Snares I generally leave dry, or put an extremely small amount of 3 second plate on it. (2 to 3% wet, no ER, no pre delay) Also keep in mind that once mastered, and pumped through a radio, or TV stations limiters, FX levels will appear to increase in volume by a good amount.
