hi, does the room where mastering takes place have to be totally flat with regards to sound? or is it just a little damp?

thanks

They generally like to deaden the walls a bit but make the floor out of wood or something.

A totally dead space isn't like the real world. It's gotta translate to the real world.

Flat is in respect to certain frequencies getting amplified or cancelled due to room size, and flat is good.

Check out Ethan Winer's writing on the subject.
