Thread Starter | ADK Hamburg or Vienna for Hip Hop vocals and more??
I already have a Shure SM7b, Im looking to add a condenser to my collection. Since money is always an issue, Id like something versatile. My main focus is hiphop vocals, but Id like something that also sounds good on a male/female singing voice (soul, triphop-ish), and maybe even acoustic guitar. The ADKs seem to get a little more love then Studio Projects around here. any input?? |

I think an U87 would be a good choice but its not really cheap, but I used the SM 7B for Hip Hop Vocals with an Universal Audio PreAmp and it sounded great!!

For female RnB Vox you should get a Brauner Phantom its very nice on nearly every female Singer we had in the Studio, but i think we got a custom made especially for a nice brilliant Sound.....so i don´t know how the original Version sounds like! Just rent a few Mics and you gonna find the right Choice thumbsup

I´m just an Assistant in Studio here in Aachen right now, so its just a dream for my at the moment to buy gear thats more than 100 Bucks or something |

i got an ADK Vienna from frontendaudio.com last week. tried it out on a hip hop vocalist the day it was delivered and it was just right. The vocalist has a Nas-esque tonality in his voice. But with a little more midrange excitement. I ran the Vienna through a UA 6176 with flat EQ and about 2dB of GR (i later found it is one of the few mic's i haven't needed to use the EQ on the way in with the 6176). It sounded exactly the way i wanted it to sound, and i feel like i've finally found the right combination for this particular rapper. I also tested my own voice with it, doing some spoken word style stuff. My voice isn't as full and with more mid range. Most Chinese mics sound like ass with my voice, but the Vienna didn't balk. The top end is pretty smooth, and thats the main reason i think the Vienna gets alot of love on GS. The only other mic i'm waiting to compare it with is the MXL V69, which will arrive tomorrow. hope this helps... |

Simply based on reviews, the Hamburg or Vienna is at the top of my list for my next studio purchase. I have more of a Slick Rick style voice but I'm not sure which mic will compliment me better. I've been leaning towards the Hamburg because I might be able to get one for around $200. The SM7 is tempting but I'm afraid that it will sound similar to my 57...help a brutha out please.

Tried the vienna on rap... sounded real nice. Airy top end without being brittle. The Hamburg felt kinda boxy on my voice, but its a great instrument mic for a bit of a more vintage sound. Great on percussion and guitar cabs. ADK simply gotta be the best value for money there is as far as LDC condenser mics... Peace /Arka |

the sm7 sounds like it could be a good choice.. as long as you have a good pre with a some decent compression and eq then you're in good shape.. this is an edit.. i meant to say the sm7b |
